Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
I know, I dredged up an old thread.
But when I searched for the motor week articles, this was the only reference I found and I figured a list of other third-gen articles was a good place for the info.

Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
Interesting that a 82 mustang that runs 15.93 in the 1/4 mile is the fastest new car in America in 1982. The Camaro runs a pathetic 16.22 in the 1/4 mile.
1982 really was a low point for the auto industry. But still fun to watch the videos. Interesting how he mentions Chevy was planning a fuel injected 5.7 for the next year but we did not see a 5.7 in a thirdgen until 1987.

Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
My friend had a brand new '82 Mustang GT (silver with a red vinyl interior) in high school, the car was loads of fun. The toughest part was keeping the *** end behind you as it got pretty squirrely on take off. My '82 Z28 (LG4) on the other hand couldn't get out of it's own way but man was it sexy!

Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
The '82 LG4 is a slug. I know, I have one!!! But, I do remember my '82 Cross Fire was fairly potent back in '86. A friend of mine had an '84 GT and it seemed a lot more potent than the CFI for having only 10hp more and the same torque!!

I really think Ford was underrating the power on the mustangs in the early 80’s. You changed the air cleaner, exhaust, and rear gears and you could drop 2 full seconds in the quarter mile.

They were also 300-500lbs lighter than the F-car. I used to mod a bunch of those fox cars and it didn't take much to make them scoot. Almost to easy

Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
At the end of this vid the narrator indicates the future (1983) chevy will have the 5.7L - was this originally in the plan for '83 and if so, why the 4 year delay?

Re: Motorweek 3rd Gen Show Numbers
39k for the Firehawk. How much was a Vette at the time? I can see why they didn't sell a lot but owning one would be nice for sure. Would of spanked the crap out of a lot of cars both domestic and abroad.
