Kelly Blue Book

Ok, everyone is talking about the blue book, that things is usally not all that acurate. My dad was a used car salesman for 15 years and your best bet is a book called N.A.D.A. Forget Kelly's Blue Book.

NADA isn't that more of like a book that legal people have and stuff, it's not usually readily avalable to the public... besides the blue book isn't TOO bad of an estimation

Actually KBB.com is pretty accurate... for retail its always high, for trade in its usually a bit low... add $200-1000 or subtract $200-1000 and you're pretty damn close.

I have noticed this as well. My dad is a banker, and NADA is all they use. I think its the same for insurance companies, Why? I think its because NADA retail values are almost always lower. The guy wasnt kidding when he said that you should subtract about 1,000 from Kelly. And i thouhgt you could get unlimited quotes at nadaguides.com

If KBB says your retail value is $2000, then its probably only worth $1000-1800 retail... if the trade in value (in fair condition) says $2000 then you can probably get $2800-3000 on trade... Make sense? regardless any "book" value is jsut a starting point... the market value in your area, the condition of the car, the mileage, etc are all goign to have a much greater impact on the value than a book value.

Remember there are at least two versions of the N.A.D.A. books. The Consumer edition which is available to the public and gives you retail value and then there is the Dealer edition which gives trade-in and wholesale values as well as the retail value. The last edition is only available to lending companies and people with a dealers licence. The dealer edition might be available to other people too but I don't know who. It will say on the front of the book which version it is.

Save the hassle of guessing regarding KBB prices. They are a joke, and any decent salesperson will tell you. I know, I am one.

The only guide worth a damn is the NADA BOOK, not the site!! My new Z is worth $1,000 more on NADA's site vs the book...don't ask why. The NADA value given for my car reflected the actual street value it was going for when I shopped dealers.

By the way, according to KBB.com my '89 RS is worth almost $5,000. Any takers??? Its yours

Even the NADA blue book can be high for more common cars (like 2-3 year old Grand Ams) that are in higher demand...they tend to go for $1,000 below book across the board.

But for sports cars, SUV's, trucks and luxury cars, more often than not the NADA is spot on market value.

Where I live the values are normally lower than the ones you see in the NADA guids or the kbbook. So you can get cars relatively cheaper here since El Paso, Tx is on the border of Mexico. A friend got a 97 Mustang GT in great condition with low miles for about $2-3k below the NADA/KBB values from a dealer. Wish I was good at bargining for cars .

According to kbb.com, my TTA's retail value with 104K miles is $17,200. I will sell my car for this amount right now if anybody wants it.
