Sounds like a fake GTA to me. I'd be checking the RPO codes.

Transmission: 700R4

Entirely possible in 1987... as the "base" Y84 GTA option consisted of only the 5.7L V8, 700R4 transmission, WS6 suspension w/ rear disc brakes, 16-inch wheels and tires, limited-slip rear axle, oil cooler, monochrome exterior paint w/ emblems, custom interior and articulating seats... at a cost of $2,700.

Without either the W61 ($1,701) or W63 ($1,958) option packages packages added, a GTA could be pretty plain in its first year.

Hope this helps.

Tell me more. Lots made like this maby????????maby not shure feels fasta than all those fully (fattened)loaded GTAs ,steers quicker too. I test drove so many GTAs in the last year and a half some times just to humour the seller. This one the int is so new it still shines ,same colour
not all bleached out. He said no rain no winter use, and you can tell. He also covered the floor with cloath since new .Age 45 when he bought it now 60 years old and all the kids and some of the grand kids wanted it so he sold it to stop the bickering and is putting the money towards his sail boat so he can get some peace and quiet. I gusse?

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with a lot of goodies, Hurst shifter, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

soon to come:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NOS, 4.10's SLP headers and maybe a T-56
