Knowledge
I'm guessing this would be the best board for this topic.
Ok, here goes. I've always liked cars, but I never took a serious interest in them until recently. My dad never was a car nut, so I never gained much about cars from him. Being 16, I'm at that age where I can start driving and that's basically when I quickly became addicted. I'll be perfectly honest, my first love was the 1965 Shelby GT 350 and if I had the money to buy one, I would. However, I want a ThirdGen bad. I'm sick of seeing these kids at my school getting their Mustangs from their mommies and daddies and thinking they're **** don't stink.
Getting back on track, I really want to know everything I can possibly learn about cars. From learning what each thing does to knowing what to do if something goes wrong. When reading what people post on here I can understand some stuff, but most of it is pretty foreign to me.
I was wondering if you guys could tell me of some good books/sites that I can learn about cars from. My dad's cousin is a mechanic, and has been for a long time, but I figure it's better to go out and ask a bunch of peoples opinions too.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hopefully soon I'll be taking pride in driving a nice ThirdGen.

Think of it as an education. You can learn a lot from this board and others like it just by reading. Problem is that there are more people on here that don't know what the hell they're doing then there are people who do. Fact is that most experianced folks don't post here. Most don't even come here because they already know and it gets boring after being asked the same question a thousand times. First off, go to the main page and read the tech articals etc... you'll pick up a lot there. If you have a large book store local to you, check it out, you'll probably find a few books on thirdgens. Most will be about mods and reprints of old articals, but any little bit helps. Finally start doing your own work. Oil changes and tune ups are a good place to start. You'll find out that every project hits a stumbling block no matter how miniscule or simple the project may seem. Just start small and know your limitations. Don't do anything you can't readily undo and you should be fine.
Welcome to the board. I know exactly what you're going through. I am 17 and got my Firebird when I was 16. My dad has been into cars but does not touch their components. He yelled at me when i tried to replace my heater core myself. He was like "you dont have the knowledge or the tools to do it!". I just had to show him wrong :P

The best thing I can think of to learn about third gens specifically is to go to bookstores like Barnes and Noble and see what is available. I am blessed with a collection of Motor Trends dating back to June, 1979, so I already had quite a few road tests to refer to on these cars. However, there is a wealth of information available on these cars through bookstores.
Don't be afraid to ask questions on here, either. I have been on this board for a little over a year, and despite having quite a bit of third gen knowledge prior to beginning this board, I have been extremely lucky to learn things from other enthusiasts on here. If there is one thing you can learn early, its that not ONE person on this board knows all there is to know about third gens...there are so many variations throughout the 10 years of production, it is impossible to know everything.
But you can try
