History / Originality Got a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!

Now I'm really confused...

Now I'm really confused...

Okay, my 85 Z28 was sold to me as an IROC-Z. The B4Z option is NOT on the RPO codes so I know it's not a real IROC. My problem is Weren't the Z28 bodies painted 2 colors and the IROCs one color? If it's not an IROC, then why does the RPO code list only say the car was "Titanium Beige"? Shouldn't there be another color listed for the lower part of the body???

I don't know for certain that the Z28s were necessarily 2 colors... but if your car doesn't have B4Z, then it didn't come with the IROC package, and if it only has one paint color, then it .... only had one piant color. AFAIK if it had come with 2 paint colors, then they would both have been listed on the tag on the core support.

I'm sorry that you got ripped off. That sucks, that people bogus up their claims about what a car really is. Are you even sure that it's really a Z28, and not a plain Camaro with the ground effects added, or something like that?

Z28's came with a 2 tone color, the ground effects were one color while the car was another. IROC'S also got pinstriping around the car.

Is it TPI? At least it is pre-peanut cam if it is. And it has some power to it

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
SLP headers, completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NEW PLAN IN THE MAKING:
BUILD A WILD CHEVY 302 JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL Z28 HAD

It doesn't really matter to me that it's not an IROC-Z. VIN's don't lie so I know it's a Z28 sport coupe. It may not be "top of the line" but I've got friends with base models who drool over my Z. I guess it's all about being happy with what you have, which I am.

VIN does not designate it as a Z28. It will only tell you if it was a vert or not. While you can differentiate a TA froma base bird by the VIN, all camaros are sport coupes (except verts which have a 3 for the sixth digit instead of 2), unless you have RPO Z28 it is not a Z28.

Not saying yours isn't, just that VIN is not a qualifying factor.

Actually, when I ran the VIN # on the VIN decoder on this very site, under "Carline Series" it says "Sport Coupe, Z28". If anyone doesn't believe me, the VIN # is: 1G1FP87H4FN107556.
The decoder said this exactly:
Made In: United States
Manufacturer: General Motors
Make: Chevrolet
Carline Code: F-Body
Carline Series: Sport Coupe, Z28
Body Type: 2 door coupe
Engine Code: 305ci V8 LG4 (1985-1986)
4 is the CHECK DIGIT
Model Year: 1985
Assembly Plant: Norwood
Production Sequence: 107556

I'm not trying to be an @$$hole so please don't be angry. I did take your advice and checked for the Z28 RPO and it has it. I appreciate your advice. Thank you to everyone.

Actually the only time it comes back with anything other than "sportcoupe/Z28" is if the cars a berlinetta.
