HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!
how do i tell by the VIN if an IROC has a 350 or a 305
i found one for sale, and i mite go buy it tommorow
i think the 7th or 8th # of the VIN was 8
and the 8th or 9th # was 0
i cant remember though i just took a quick glance
but with luck, i mite be welcoming an 88 red IROC-Z into the family tommorow

1986 Camaro 2.8

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, the 8 means 350. ONLY 8 as far as I know means 350, everything else is 305... Mine has F which is 305.

Try not to be so impatient, you're question will eventually be answered. Patience has its virtues.
and now i remember that it said 5.7 Liter TPI on the back bumper so i know its a 350
Do you realize how easy it would be to replace an emblem? Go strictly by the VIN, not a bumper emblem. The eighth digit signifies the engine. An "8" is a 350.

....but then i saw someone said that the 145 speedo is indicative of a 350s
Not true. The 145 speedo made its debut in late 1986 in 305 TPI Z28's and has been used in these cars through 1992 (except for the 1989 - 1992 ragtop Z28's). All 350 cars got it too.

i checked the RPO sticker
the VIN's matched (sticker to winshield) and it said L98
so it should have a 350
but i have a bigger problem
we went to start up the car today
and it wouldnt crank
the belt turned as we cranked the key
but the motor would not turn over
i was offered a good deal on this car
($2600) it's exterior is in great shape
but i dont know how it runs
I think the problem is this: the car has a cowl (daytona) hood and the weather has been pretty soggy around here
i think the distributor got wet and no spark is getting to the cylinders
am i on the right track?
how can i get the engine to run b4 i buy the car to make sure thats the problem and that all else is ok?
Dude, if your engine is not even turnig over then it is totally jacked! It should atleast turn over with the starter engaged. It's time for a rebuild. No spark would only mean that it won't fire........

Just use the fact that it won't turn over as a bargaining stratagy(sp?). Then buy it and do a 383 rebuild on the motor and go snake hunting.(cobras not vipers)
