Car: 1989 Camaro Convertible
Two seat convert on ebay

I couldn't help but laugh. It is a nice car, and I remember that Devils Mentor guy is looking for one, so I thought I'd post this.

Have fun picking this guys description apart. He makes a lot of false claims in his effort to sell the car. It's good for a laugh. My favorite part "While everybody else in America is clamoring for the overpriced PT Cruisers and "New" Thunderbirds, you can laugh as you blow by them in a car that nobody else has or can afford. This car is equipped with a multi-port V6."

The whole thing is hilarious, but to sum it up in his own words "Does this sound like salesmanship or pure b.s.? You decide."

Bwahahahaha!

I could go on and on, but I'll save some of the fun for you guys. I am still lol!

EDIT: I am a dumbass. I can't believe I forgot to add the link. Thanks Drew.

Since we all run into these frequently with false claims, I think its important to point out some of the false claims. I may not be 100% correct, but I'll start and if anyone has anything to add, they're welcome. Just keep it history and resto related.

The below is quoted, I'll make corrections where I see fit.

89000 Miles · 6 - Cyl.
· 2 doors · Automatic transmission
· Used · Clear title
· Red Exterior - Black Interior
· VIN: 1G1FS87S1GN143815

---Here are the results for your query on: 1G1FS87S1GN143815
Made in: United States
Manufacturer: General Motors
Make: Chevrolet
Carline Code: F-Body
Carline Series: Berlinetta
Body Type: 2 door coupe
Engine Code: 173 ci V6 LB8 (1986)
1 is the CHECK DIGIT.
Model Year: 1986
Assembly Plant: Norwood
Production Sequence: 143815

Note it doesn't classify it as a convertible by the VIN.---

You are bidding on an extremely rare factory authorized roadster conversion. ---not according to the VIN, or any resource I've ever seen. GM only officially authorized ASC to convert ttop cars to convertibles, and only 1987-up.--- Think back to 1986 when the American dream car, Camaro, was not offered as a convertible. GM executives scrambled for a competitor for the Chrysler products which were once again offering convertibles. GM dealers were crying for their own convertible, and you are looking at their proposed solution. This is not some cheeseball conversion done by Tino's Body Shop. ---Maybe not by "Tino's Body Shop" but buy one of the companies that did these cheeseball conversions.--- These extremely heavily optioned cars were painstakingly altered to give the discriminating Chevrolet enthusiast something to be proud of. ---I consider myself a Chevy enthusiast, and I've never had any interest in the 2 seat conversions. If it wasn't good enough for GM to authorize it, why should I appprove of it? Not to mention the cars heavily optioned because its a Berlinetta.--- Research the Berlinetta and you will discover that it is the rarest Camaro of all. ---Not even close. LT, maybe, ASC 87 Z28, maybe, Berlinetta? no.--- They were the top of the line offering from 1984-1986, and 1986 was the last year Berlinettas were offered and slightly better than 4,000 were produced for the whole country. ---I'm not going to break out the books to check the production numbers, but it certainly wasn't the top of the line. In most everyones opinion the Z28 was the top of the line till 85, then the IROC was top of the line till after the Berlinetta was scrapped.--- When you click on the photopoint logo you will be quickly browser directed to see up close and satisfying pictures of a truly remarkable and fastly appreciating modern collectible. ---Possibly, the 2 seat roadsters do seem to have a small following.--- While everybody else in America is clamoring for the overpriced PT Cruisers and "New" Thunderbirds, you can laugh as you blow by them in a car that nobody else has or can afford. ---How can anyone compare apples to oranges?--- Supply and demand curves can be thrown out the window, because this car is not available but once in a lifetime. ---Or 2-3 times a month on Ebay.--- Does this sound like salesmanship or pure b.s.? ---yes--- You decide. ---I did.--- I am offering this car at no reserve at an opening bid of $7,500. ---About $4000 too high in my opinion. Since typical NICE thirdgen convertibles that were truly factory authorized and better engineered, usually run $5-10k.--- My only hope is that a true Chevy enthusiast will step up to the plate and own an enviable piece of automotive history. ---Piece of history, yes, evniable? to the right person, maybe.--- This car is equipped with a multi-port V6. You want more ponies under the hood? Drop in a 305, 350, or whatever jerks your chain. ---Research the motor swap board to see just how impractical this is. Not to mention problems that may be encountered with the Berlinetta's propriatary electrical setup--- It has power steering, power brakes, cruise control, tilt wheel, digital instrumentation, first generation digitized graphic equalizer, power mirrors, leather seats, and the most important convenience of all: a quality drop top that incorporates the original overhead console that neatly folds under the fiberglass shell to give a strikingly stealthy look. ---Leather seats weren't available in 86, therefore they aren't true to original. They appear to be Mr. Mikes covers. Not exactly ideal for the discerning Chevy enthusiast.--- Before you discount having the V6, factor in fuel efficiency with the four speed overdrive transmission, and the very affordable insurance rates that will even allow your teenager to drive it. ---MPFI V6's seem to get about the same gas mileage as a TPI 5.7L when driven wide open. With the V6 performance is only achieved with the pedal to the floor, negating gas mileage as a reasonable concern.--- The aftermarket alloy wheels are beautiful, but I'll include a set of vintage z-28 rims and caps with the car. ---Neither set of wheels would truly be correct for the car, again not what the 'discriminating Chevy enthusiast' would appreciate.--- The pictures will also show the incredible attention given to details on fit and finish of the convertible option. The panel between the seats has a door keyed tumbler that when turns released the top electrically to expose the cavernous storage area for the soft top. The top can be put up or down in less than a literal 3 minutes. The tires are new, the paint is less than two years old, and included is a handwritten log that gives a comprehensive history of each oil change, belt change, fluid change, tire replacement, top replacement, on and on. ---Again, many original aspects are gone, further hurting the cars collectibility.--- This car runs flawlessly, shifts flawlessly, and drives flawlessly. You will be frustrated with how much time is spent fielding questions about the car wherever you choose to drive it. If you are having self-esteem issues, than this might be the car for you. It is a virtual chick magnet, rooster magnet, or egg magnet depending on the user's needs. ---Funny, I've never had any urge for farm animals in my cars.--- All kidding aside, this really is a fun car at a ridiculously low price. ---The price is a matter of opinion, but the 'discriminating Chevy enthusiast could do better with Auto Trader, or even local classifieds.--- Have fun bidding, and feel free to email me with any questions or call me on my cell phone at ***-***-****. If you can't afford the car don't bid. Someday your ship will come in and you will be able to afford nice cars too. Check out my feedback, I go out of my way to answer and and all questions. When the auction concludes and a buyer has committed, please overnight a cashier's check in the amount of $1000.00 to *****

Vehicle Condition

What problems does the car have? I will have replaced the blinker control switch before the auction ends. It does not leak any fluids, burn any fluids, or have any mechanical problems, the ac is cold, the tires are new, and the windows, locks, and all power equipment works as they should. This car has been meticulously cared for its whole life, has slept peacefully in a dry garage, and has never been in a wreck or been exposed to any rust causing agents.

---All told it doesn't look too bad, the aftermarket pieces (bra, wheels, Looney Tunes floor mats, cheeseball steering wheel cover, etc) can be removed, although the bra might have scuffed the paint. The price is rather unreasonable considering prices I've seen on the same cars over the past few years. Typically they show up every few weeks. Not extremely rare, not GM authorized, at least not above the dealership level, not extremely valuable. Can't blame the guy too much, he's just trying to sell a car with a very small demand.---

Incidently, if anyones interested in a truly collectible Camaro Convertible that is factory authorized and legit, check out...

Vin checks out as a 92 Z28 Convertible with a tpi 305. Also with the car being in Texas the body is likely rust free. Not to mention its a Heritage car with under 20,000 miles.

Here's another legit Camaro Convertible with a TPI 305. It has some tacky addons but all would be easy to reverse. Given the extremely reasonable price it easily eclipses the Berlinetta.

Ha Ha Ha ! Rare factory 2 seater, huh? I've seen those before, they are the cheapest, most tacky coversions I've ever seen. Wait, that kit car on here might be worse. You know what, I hope whoever buys that turd lives near me, so he can get stomped in his V6 packin' piece o "history" by a real 3rd gen 'vert. Just my opinion.

The 84 convt is kinda interesting. No, it's not a factory authorized conversion but it looks well done. If I was rich I'd probably add it to my collection just to complete the time line of Camaro. I wonder if he'll throw in the Yosemite Sam floor mats?
I have a 92 Z28 convt and I'd say the 92Z28 for sale on e-bay will be worth more in the future than the 84 Berlinetta. Last of the 3rd gens, 25th anniversary edition (has the Z03 pkg unlike mine , factory authorized conversion.
