HO Air Cleaner
I got mine used at the Jefferson, Wis. car show swap meet for $35. I just sandblasted it and gave it a coat of satin black.

The price range will be enormous. Search the yards first. I paid $30 for mine, but I've seen them go for 5 times that much.

I've had at least 3 of these over the last couple years. I've paid $45, $5, and nothing for them myself. GM's price is high enough to make it not worthwhile. Used they go anywhere from $20-150.

When I was in Highschool I took two standard ones, a hacksaw blade, tin snips a few poprivets and made a 'homemade' one for about 10 bucks.
I remember seeing an article in HotRod or a similar magazine round 85 or so detailing the specifics.
I installed it on an 84 Z, looked good as new couldn't even tell it was homebrew.

http://www.yearone.com sells them for about $280 for the entire assembly, including the snorkels and all fasteners...way too much if you ask me
Unfortunately, if you want something brand new looking, this is the only way to go...you can repaint a boneyard one, but GM doesn't sell the "5.0 Litre H.O." decal and pinstripe that is on the lid.

You can take two LG4 aircleaners and make a dual snorkle aircleaner, but the snorkles on the L69 aircleaner flow about 4 times more air per snorkle than the LG4's snorkle. Theoretically a properly operating L69 aircleaner will flow 8 times more air over the LG4's stock aircleaner. Incidentally, the LG4 and L03 aircleaners are identical. Also, you can use several other GM aircleaner lids with the L69's aircleaner to facilitate using a larger airfilter.
Before anyone jumps in to counter that an open element aircleaner is cheaper and flows better, how much air can a LG4, L69, or L03 really use?

There is a series of articles done by Chevy Hi-Performance Magazene about a "budget-build" third gen. They put a dual-snorkle on it, but I don't remember where they got it. You can view the articles on chevyhiperformance.com, on the "my generation" link.

My stepdad's '79 Z came with a dual snorkle air cleaner. I'm thinking about using it on a custom ram air fed by the two louvers in the 82-84 Z28 hoods. I would suggest looking for a late 70's, early 80's Camaro for one. I'm not sure how much it flows but they look pretty similar.

Depends on the junkyard and how much time you want to spend searching for one. Locally we've got about 7 junkyards, I searched all of them. Only 1 had any L69's... that yard had 3-4 of them, but none had complete aircleaners. I ended up with two of them, another was burned to a crisp. In both cases the cars had just come into the yard. One was 5 rows away from the rest of the Camaro's. I'd imagine had it been with the rest I probably wouldn't have found the aircleaner still on the car. The other good one was in a pile of aircleaners on the passengers seat of a car under a pile of junk. Its really just a matter of luck, although I'd probably just watch the classifieds here since there was one posted early yesterday and they tend to show up every so often.
