the serial or sequence # of production for B4C 's

the TTA guys are able to tell you what sequence production # thier cars are based on thier VIN (i.e. "I own #421 and #360...") since less than a total of 1000 B4C third gen's were made for those two years, does anyone know how we can do this? email me please B4Ctom1@aol.com

Usually the Pace Cars are documented from the factory. The VIN does not determine the cars number. I received a certificate from Chevy when I bought my 2003 Monte Carlo Pace Car. I contacted a friend that has all the doco for Pace Cars when I bought my 93 Camaro Pace Car. Chevrolet or Pontiac has record of the actual build number.

Just an example...My 93 Pace Car was the 474th US built Pace Car but is documented as car #494. There were 20 cars built for Canada and they were built first. Nowhere in my VIN is a 474 or 494 in the VIN sequence numbers

Police cars, 1LE, Player's cars, etc. are all built on the assembly line and not in "one batch". The TTA were sent out for conversion, so they could be sequentially VIN.

I know the Player's Challenge cars are "batch" built, but the sequence numbers still have gaps in them. I've seen some sequenial ones, and some that are further apart than the total production numbers.

Basically, GM made the cars as ordered. So you will not be able to tell what number your car is.

Mark.

The only way to do this would be to document all of the B4C cars, then take the VIN and decifer the order.

Unfortunately most of the B4C cars would be gone by now, being that they saw police service and their life would have been mostly spent.

Unless GM would be able to dig up all of the VINS of those cars with the B4C code and go from there.

Good luck

Mark.
The TTAs do not have sequentially numbered VINs. The sequence # is not referenced in the VIN either. Pontiac maintained a list of the TTA VINs and the order in which they were built and thus can provide a sequence #.

phaze92 and I are in the process of doing this. 1992 is being done first. This is going to take a long time though, we're only about 20,000 cars into this and there were 70,000 built for '92!

No. I have to search through all 70,000 cars built in the '92 model year, and I have only done about 20,000 so far.

That is a daunting task for sure - good on ya to take it on!!!

I would be curious as to how many B4C's also show up with good ol' Z49 - ie. how many were produced for us Canucks? Or at least how many you have found so far...... I heard that the RCMP had six for Saskatchewan, and have also found out that there were some in Alberta and BC as well (there are pics on 1LE.net of a BC 92 B4C that is now in track use.....)

I also know that the Metro Toronto cops had six (?) as well, in fact Motoring (a weekly car review TV show produced up here for TSN (cable sports network)) did a feature on one of the T.O. cop cars - I have been trying to find a copy of it for years..... anyone have one?

If you can shoot me an email, would love to hear the final results....

I know of one I have ran across already. I think it was a Med Quasar Blue car. Yes between this little project, the assembly plant pics, new job, and my own car, I've got alot going on at the moment. Stay tuned for the final results.

Thanks - first time that I had seen those pictures on SSPMustang, so now have a dilemna as to which version mine would be closer to as far as light bar and paint on mirrors.....

also a rare piece of documentation
very cool brochure - haven't seen that one before......

B4Ctom1, I think from a different post that this is your car's SPID label (ex-Colorado B4C)? Z49 RPO is one that was (& still is) automatically added to all vehicles built for Canadian consumption - it would give you among other things: a speedo that has km/h on the major (outside) scale, odometer that reads in km, plus daytime running lamps (which I now understand are standard on a lot of GM's), K05 block heater (on most cars), rear defogger, and triggered a GM Canada warranty booklet, and possibly a different owner's manual, again depending on model, window label in Cdn$ + other stuff - emissions/rear child seat tether anchor/safety stuff?
