Is your IROC an 85? A good way to tell is if it has no rear spoiler, your dash emblem says Z28 IROC,and a beefer suspension, like bigger sway bars. Then I would say you quite possibly have an oroginal California IROC.

Yes the car is a 1985, and does have the emblem Z28Iroc on the dash. I ran the vin and it said it was assembled in Van Nuys and has a 305ciV8 LB9, production seq 500334. The car does have a spoiler. Do you think that was added or could it have come with it? The engine looks all original and I want to keep it that way, very straight body, very very little rust around front window, will be fixed as soon as I sell my 1974 MGB GT. If the spoiler is added should I remove it and repair the trunk lid? just to keep the car original looking.

Thanks for your input, Tom

As far as I know, all iroc-z's came with a rear spoiler. You can find this out by running your option codes in your center console.(If you still have the option code sticker) The sticker might be in the compartment in the hatch also. Dont know what the code is for the rear spoiler. Might be able to find out on this site for RPO codes. I would leave the spoiler on, as it is a great performance upgrade. Hope this helps.

Search around and ask about the 85 IROC, they were a special package offered for the Z28.They were either black, white,or red. They also only came with ground effects and no spoiler. These cars were only avaliable in California. There were only 500 of these made for that year.In 86 they came with the rear spoiler.

An 85 Iroc isn't a rarity, its not unusual, etc... its an option package like any other. 85 was the first year for the Iroc, you can read the tech data for a full breakdown of what was included with the Iroc. The RPO's in the car will designate what options it had/has and will indicate if its in any way unusual.

I dont know where anyone thought the 85 IROC is rare, etc.. Lots for sale, but it is the first year and not modified. MY question was can you look at the front end and see if it has the IROC package? What can a non mechanic look for to see if the front end is an IROC?

Check for a wonderbar. It attaches to the steering box. You can run a search on the word wonderbar and have questions you didn't even know you needed the answer to answered. If you still have your RPO sheet in the console, check for B4Z as that is the code for the IROC option.

The car 85SportCoupeto89RS was thinking of was the California IROC which was spoiler and hood louver delete.

Not to be critical but where did you get that info from? My father ordered a new 1985 IROC-Z when they first came avaliable. His was silver with red IROC-Z decals on the doors with grey interior. It was built in Van Nuys and definately had a rear spoiler. He still has the original brocher and there were other colours avaliable as well (like metallic blue). my $0.02

Trickle, he's talking about the California IROC package, which came without decals, without the louvered hood and without the spoiler. He's not claiming that only 500 IROCs were produced, but 500 with the California IROC package.
