Did they ever build two tone GTA's?
Being that I like the T/A over the GTA mainly because they look better due to the two tone paint scheme, I was wondering if they ever built any two tone GTA's, either a regular production option or as a special production option?
If so, what colores were they offered in?
Also, could you get most of the GTA options on a T/A, and more specifically, could you get the GTA inflatable lumbar bucket seats in a GTA?
My 87 is a red and silver T-top, tuneport 5.0 liter with tons of options which include the "GTA" wheels in charcoal and the aero wing. It sports the delux interior in silver and delux rear carpeted panels and rear well hatch cover. The only item a GTA has that I would like in my car are the inflatable lumbar seats. Being that some GTA's were built with tune port 5.0 liters, they are comperable to my car, but not as pretty, in my opinion because of the lack of a two paint scheme. Just because something costs more, doesn't mean that it is better or more appealing, just that the manufacturer duped the buyers into paying alot.
Because I just bought an 86 T-top T/A for $300 and am building it to look like my red 87, but with the few items I wish my 87 had, this car should be nicer and faster, which will allow me to sell the red and silver 87 this coming summer. Though the 86 will be carburated and not have the original engine in it, it will be expected to run mid to low 14's, then get a rear end change and run in the mid to high 13's.
The red tune port 87 is a slow pig. It runs like 16.90's in bad weather conditions and 16,70s in good weather conditions. Bottom line is that 16's are slow and they suck.
I have always thought that the red 87 would be tons more fun to drive if the car was only quicker, which the easiest and cheapest way to do that is with carburation.
Sad to admit it, but most stock F bodys get the snot kicked out of them by 5.0 liter Mustangs. From my 10 years of drag racing expereince as the track announcer, I can factually say that Mustangs seem to average 15.50's in stock trim and then only get faster. That is why I building the 86 to run run high 13's but still try and get 20 MPG. Speed and economy, a mix bag of tricks dictated by the greeding money grubbing gas gouging gas producers. Too bad that it took a terrible national tradgedy to get the gas prices to fall.

no there weren't any two tone gta's.
and there's something severely wrong with your ta if it's only pulling off high 16's. An 87 305 TPI auto car should pull off a mid 15 bone stock. a lot of them have 2.73 rears too. Swap to a 3.42 or 3.73, and ditch the peanut cam, and you'll be well into the 14's.
get a cam, vortec heads, scoggen dickey vortec tpi base, port your plenum, and get a set of aftermarket runners, and with decent gears and traction, you should be in 13 territory.
a carb is not necessarily a power adder.

Generally speaking, from 87-92 at one point or another you could get just about every GTA option on a Trans Am. The only part I'm not sure about are the steering wheel radio controls.
THATS EASY I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED STEERING CONTROLS WITH RADIO OUT OF AN 89 GTA AND INTO AN 87 TA AND INSTALLED THE GTA AIR LUMBAR SEATS TO GO ALONG WITH IT IT IS PRETTY EASY ACUTALLY IF YOU WAHT TO PUT IT IN YOUR CAR I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO DO IT.
I SOLD MY 87 AND BOUGHT THIS CAR IN TAMPA FL. WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH CONDITION OF CAR.
