Missing Control/Feature?

So as I took apart my dash yesterday to check on why my temperature guage isn't working...I learned something new. There's a plug ready for some kind of control behind some electrical tape that I didn't know was there before.

It's a similar kind of plug as is used for my defroster controls and I was wondering if anybody here knew what's normally at that location?

The high-end stereo option would put a gain slider for the factory amplifier in that location.

Ah...well I suppose I don't really need that anymore. Would it make sense to put the trunk release there if I got a remote trunk release installed? Or is that usually on the other side of the steering wheel?

remote trunk release usually goes to the right of the defroster controls.

In my 83 Trans Am, that's where the rear window wiper switches were located.

Yep, it would be for the rear wiper...I thought it wasn't in the '84 models though.

Iiinteresting...I'm curious now.

Would systemmatically trying to jump each connector fry anything?

The connector looks like the following (as best as I can do ASCII art :P):
_______
| - - - |
| - - - |

The rear defroster (which doesn't work) is plugged into the same thing...I wonder if it would work in that plug. o_O

After poking around a bit in the Haynes and Chilton's manuals, I think I figured it out. There used to be a button to turn on and off the subwoofer (which my car came with...the performance stereo kit with the sub tubes in the sail panels).

Thanks for the suggestions and help! It got me researching on the right track.
