my car has chrome door handles and a chrome domelight, anyone know y?

 

Yes.

All those items were available in chrome on base model birds.

I don't think there was any chrome parts from the factory. I know there was not any for Z28s in 83. In fact, the sales blurb at the time was that GM prided themselves on the fact that there was no chrome anywhere on these cars. Chrome was considered OLD 60's and 70's era.

 

Directly from the 84 Dealer Album...Yes you could get factory chrome trim on your firebird.

(Door handles, drip rails)

 

thanx for the help guys, i also have a domelight on there looks like the ones from the 81'trans am with the map lights, someody problay added that on cuz i never seen a third gen. with one on.

 

never seen any with crome. anyone care to post some pictures up?

I've seen a few base model 'Birds and Sport Coupes with chrome outer door handles.I don't know if they were original.Along similar lines the '83 Sport Coupes came with black sport mirrors standard - you had to pay extra for them to be color keyed.The dome light is an oddity for a 3rd gen to have.That I would be was changed/added somewhere down the line.I passed a '82 -'84 Sport Coupe had an aluminum targa band and some tape stripes but inside she was as base as you could get.If i have the time next time I pass her i'm going to take a closer look just for curiosity.

Yah I don't think that dome light is original... but the handles are. And the rims are from a late 60's early 70's Buick... I think!

 

the rims arent oringinal, i added those on.
