Favorite high performance Third Gen.

What is your favorite, designated as "high performance"? (excluding the TTA's and Firehawks) Do you prefer the flashier styling of the GTA over the sleeper Formula, the more aggresive styling of the later Z28, over the IROC, or the simplicity of the earlier carb motors over the TPI's? MAybe your just brand loyal? I've had an IROC, GTA, and now Formula, and I've always loved the Banshee styling of the 91-92 Birds best, but loved my GTA's leather interior. However, I like the ground effects slighly better on the 85-90 GTA/TA better than the 91-92. I love the styling of the IROC almost as much, but prefer the Firebird interior. Got an all around favorite, and if you want why?

91-92 Camaro's most popular by far so far, styling the main reason? All you guy's voting own one? Anyone out there own one type, but prefer another? Why'd you chose your car over another? Base model owners, sorry for the leave out nothing against your cars, was meant to limit poll options, but if there is a reason, beside price, Insurance and fuel economy, why you prefer the base over one of the others, this is where you can fess up, your among friends.

85-90 T/A or GTA. One day I'd like to own a 91 or 92, the right opportunity has just never come around.

So which did you vote?, I take it you own your 88, but would rather have a 91-92, because of exterior styling?

I didn't miss it, I excluded it,(reread post) as chevy didn't offer it's equal(wouldn't a vert IROC been awesome with that motor in 89?), If you like the style of the TTA best, you can vote 85-90. The main purpose of this poll is too see which the majority of us prefer, Camaro or Firebird, which year(s) and why?

I love the 85-90 Iroc exterior. But I like the T/A 's interior better its so much sportier.

85-90 T/A is my favorite by far. I absolutely do not like 91-92 firebird/trans am body style. I own both. I am considering converting the 92 to 85-90 trans am clone or something custom.

If i had a camaro, I would want a 91-92 RS.

I am looking from mostly a sytling viewpoint. I have the ability to do an engine swap.

with you on the ground effects on the 91-92 T/A's, they look almost "tacked on" but Formula's don't have em, and I love that banshee styling, it seems to have aged better than the 85-90's as well(I had someone think my car was a 97) I also like the Formula's "power bulge hood" better than the GTA/TA's flat one, especially driving.Give the nod to the laced wheels over the turbo ones, but some 91-92's came with em, in black. I sure wouldn't put the older style front end on a 92 though. To each his own.

The 91-92 formulas look good. If i had a firebird without ground effects, I would want that body style.

I like the '91-'92 style purely for the front nose. I do not like the ground effects on then though because it breaks up the nice smooth flowing lines of the car.

F&Ybodlover,
your original question is a bit misleading/confusing - are you after performance or a performance appearance - vote? You exclude the TTA and firehawks (due to low production -I am guessing here and as you mention the lack of a chevy counterpart?) so it seems at first you are after performance - so imo, I would go with all '90 TPI cars due to the improved TPI system, and then any 90 and up 1LE's/b4c... After this, hard to beat the formula 350's (90 and up)
I would end with the HO305's LG$ of the earlier years.
In terms of performance appearance - '91-'92z28 and '88-'89 GTA's
-Andrew

sorry for the I would say the mainly the combination of performance and appearance. I chose the highperformance models to limit poll options from the base models, as some might choose them simply because of better economy, cheaper insurance etc. If I would have included the Firehawk and TTA, they might garnish the most votes simply because of their engines, rarity, and value. Nice examples of each in the poll sold for close $ new, and are worth nearly equally the same today. Would anyone out there, really choose an 83 T/A straight up over a Firehawk ? Since all the cars, came with the same engine options, for their given years, exterior and interior styling is probably the main factor in choice for most of us.(unless that big 5hp advantage the Camaro has over the bird is your decideing factor) Some of us out there, simply prefer the IROC, because it has a "bowtie" on it. If your a carb guy, and or like the earlier styling, than one of those cars would probably be your choice.

I gotta go with the 85-90 Iroc.
They're just slightly better than the 91/92's.

Formulas are my favorite...simple scheme and not too many doodads in the interior. I own my favorite, a '91 (91-92) Formula. Like the graphics on the sides gone and love the banshee nose, power bulge hood. I did also own an '89 Formula 350, like the design of the '91 better. Yes, black is vewy vewy bad on an f-body!!!!

I chose the 87-90 formula since I own one.
I didn't like them at first since they didn't have ground effects, but the style has grown on me over the years.

When these cars were new, and when I graduated high school(90') I was all about the IROC-Z(The Italian boy in me) I read the March 90 issue of Motor Trend, and fell in love with the red 90 350 they featured, It also wound up being in the Steven Segal movie Out for Justice the following year, and I got a Red 86 in the summer of 91. I didn't like the new Z28 at all then but they've really grown on me as well. Also that year, Car and Driver featured the Firehawk, and along with the ZR1 became my favorite car. I later started likin GTA's, and now the late Formula has grown as my fave. Who know's how I'll feel in a couple of years, but I will get a Red 90 5.7 Roc' someday.
