82 t/a never seen one like it
I am just wonduring if my 82 trans am is somewhat rare because I have never seen one like it before so here it goes.......82 Trans Am,305 4bbl,4spd t-10(reverse is left then up),black and gold,4 wheel disc brakes,15 in finned wheels with black bowling ball caps, huge sway bars, tan PMD leather interior, and it has power erverything.I got it from my uncle about 15 years ago and he purchased it new.I have had it stored since then but I was just wonduring if I had something or not, thanks and be easy on me if its just an average car Im new here

if the car is in good condition or just needs some basic TLC then you have yourself a good example of an early third gen and good examples are becoming rare. i myself have an 83 but mine has the 5 speed option and the turbo fin wheels somewhat similar to what you have without the caps. from what iv seen third gen stick cars are more rare than autos and early third gen stick cars are even more rare.
hopefully Oz can chime in and put some light on this even more for ya.

I agree not many T10 cars were made just alittle over 7000 82 T/A'S were equipped with manuals.
Just don't let any of those Knight Rider guys see it,Those sneaky scoundrels LOL !!

Your car has the base powertrain for a TA/Z28 in 82. The LG4/4speed combo was base, with the LG4/thm 200c 3 speed auto as an "upgrade". The LU5 Crossfire/thm combo was top option. You seem to have a high content car with the base engine/trans combo. I am sure that it is scarce, as few of these cars remain. Keep in mind that the Saginaw 4 speed also was available. You could not choose which unit a car came with. The great majority of these cars had the LG4/auto set up. My 82 Z28 had the Saginaw with reverse down and to the left. Enjoy your ride. Oldtimer.

I guess it could be vinyl but it looks like leather, maybe a leather looking vinyl. I know what ever it is its the original material. I guess thats why I am here to find out the facts, maybe someone could shed some light on this for me.....leather/viynl......someones got to know, also I have heard that 90% of the 4spd cars were infact saginaws so not many t-10 cars were actually made??????

If you have 15 inch wheels the car is a WS6. You have WS7 if you are missing the rear discs but have 15 inch wheels.

Check the hood, is it steel or Aluminum, if its aluminum It would be VERY rare. Aluminum was only in 1982 and possibly 1983 and unbelievably rare option. I have knowledge of 3.

Sounds like you have a nice, original survivor with somewhat desirable combo (color, transmission, options, etc). My advise is to not hack this one up. I think they are getting rare as mentioned previously because many have become wrecked, rusted, customized or just used up.
I'd take your car over any tuned port model anyday of the week. There are a lot of the later third gens out there, but it's not every day you see a clean early one. Just my opinion. Enjoy your car!

This was interesting to read about rarity of a 82 TA. I have an all original 82 TA CFI with T-Tops (white). Mine has 64XXX original miles on it. I can't seem to find many of these in good shape. I am going to leave it all just as it is. No mods. Body is perfect, no dings, dents, never an accident. Bought it from a friend that bought it new. Mine has the drum brakes, so doesn't that make it a WS7?

Becky, if the car is that intact check the RPO codes in the consome. it will be a sticker thats about 4x3 in and those 3 digit letter and number combos mean something. it will tell if the car is WS6 or WS7.
DONT LOSE THAT STICKER as it gives all the info about that car. also look under the seats to see if the build sheet is there. thats a kool thingto have for our cars.

WRONG !! 82's Didn't have rpo spids in the center console,That didn't start until '84.The only way to know what came on your 82 is to unbolt the driver side seat and salvage CAREFULLY the build sheet,Since Becky said she has rear drums then its a WS7.

The build sheet could be anywhere in the car, not just under the seats. They hid them in all kinds of strange places...

What month was your car built?
Gm used two sources for 4-speed transmissions, Borg-Warner and G.M. Corporate (which where made by Saginaw) All 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder cars received the G.M. Corporate 4-speed, while 8-cylinder cars received the Borg-Warner from start of production until July 6, 1982. Beginning July 7, 1982 until the end of production 8-cylinder cars received the G.M. Corporate transmission. The Borg-Warner transmission is a wide ratio and the G.M. Corporate transmission is a close ratio
Gear 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
Borg-Warner Transmission 3.42 2.28 1.46 1.00
G.M. Corporate 2.85 2.02 1.35 1.00
Easy way to identify the difference is the shift patterns which are different. Reverse position on the Borg-Warner transmission is to the left and forward. Reverse position on the G.M. Corporate transmission is to the left and back.
