All factory convertibles,VIN sixth digit 3,came with 305's.If it's a 2 then it was an ASC conversion.I'm using the "Camaro Whitebook" for the production figures of '88 IROC convertibles was 3761 But it doesn't give the break for manual/automatic transmission. Also it doesn't break down how many were LO3 305(TBI - VIN eighth E) or LB9 305(TPI - VIN eighth F).I don't think GM kept this type of information on option breakdowns.
Hope this helps.

Edit:And I forgot to welcome you to TGO.

The factory "3" cars were also done by ASC. The difference lies in how it came to be a convertible. Either way ASC did the conversion.

Thank you cdartz I should have elaborated if the sixth digit was a "2" and the eighth digit was an "8" it's an aftermarket(customer ordered)conversion.

HAHAHA,
1) yes records were kept, but they are not usually released as such. Pontiac has RECORDS of every car they made, and you can still get the Dealer Invoice with the options which were originally ordered.
2) They hardly if ever offer the information as such, when they release production information its usually in the form of So many Convertibles, all lines. So many 305 engines, so many TPI engines so many with an Automatic ect.

Its not that they do NOT have the information or the recods its they choose not to present it that way as there are an infinate number of possiblities. Could you imagine a book written in that mannor.
Just take a few options and it gets lengthy

The way they do it is: (numbers are simple)
T-Tops - 150
350 - 75
305 - 100
2.8L - 125
Red interior - 20
Black interior - 50
Gray interior - 100
Brown interior - 30
Automatic Trans - 200
Manual Trans - 100

If they organized SOME of the above information in groups imagine this:
350, Automatic, Red interior -5
350 Automatic, Black interior - 10
350 Automatic, Gray interior -50
350 Automatic, brown interior - 10
305 Manual, Black interior...

Do you see why they offer production numbers like they do, If there were 50,000 cars made in one year there is a possibility that no 2 cars were identical, and making 50,000 different categories spelling out each option grouped with another is not practical. THAT is why they do not have breakdowns like this, its NOT that the information is not there, its never supplied.

If you have a low production like the Firehawk, then those numbers are more reasonable to keep track of.

Invoice information may be on file that shows what options were on which cars, but unless someone compiles all of those invoices and produces a count for each option in combination with another, the numbers will never really be available. In other words, no records were kept of option combinations.

Since were so interested in arguing about ASC vs Factory and how many were made and not actually helping this new member I thought I would help him:

Camaro White Book, get one, off of Amazon. not perfect, but there are some numbers at least.

305... this one is a little toughter since all IROC convertibles would have a 305, However there was 2 305 engines in 1988.

96275 TOTAL production

12,116 L98's -5.7L V8
12,620 LB9 - TPI V8
28,719 LO3 - Base V8
42,820 LB8 - V6

77,179 MXO A4 Trans

66,605 SC's
1,859 SC verts
24,050 IROC's
3,761 IROC-Z Convertible

Since we know that the SC did not get TPI, nor did the IROC get a V6 we can conclude the following, nor did the vert get the 350 we can conclude the following:
12,166 L98 IROC's
12,620 LB9 IROC's
3,025 LO3 IROC's
------------------
42,820 V6 SC's
25,644 LO3 SC's
