i found this ad on autotader it has no pics but says it a 1986 iroc LT1 one of 50? idk how to post a link on this computer but you can find it on there in area code 30506 within i think 200 miles

No, the corvette didn't even have the LT1 by then... I don't even think GM even had it on the drawing board by then.

LT1 was an engine code for the C3 vettes, but it went out of production long before the thirdgen F-body came along.

 

i thought it came out in the 90's or something if it was out before the third gen then why did the fourths get it?

 

There was an LT-1 Engine made in the 70s for the Corvette & was in the camaros as well.

 

It came out in '92 (the new LT1) in the Corvette and then was offered in the F-body in '93 when the 4th gen came out. As a general rule of thumb, the F-body gets the next generation 350 a year after the base corvette.

There's just absolutely no way that the original LT1 was offered in the 3rd gen F-body, that engine was way too radical for emissions in the mid 80's.

Yeah. I notice alot of sellers don't really know what they're talking about when listing these cars, especially dealers. I see alot of 3rd gen cars listed with LT1's, and alot of pre-98 4th gens listed as having LS1's.

 

to further go along with what mike just said.....there are all kinds of people who refer to the TPI engines as "LT1's". It's just ignorance. That part is usually just under informed people trying to give "information" about what they have. As for the 1 of 50....that's just someone trying to lie and rip someone off.....

Its says "1 of 50", but why is everyone assuming that its talking about the "LT1 'vette eng". The ad doesn't even imply that the LT1 is stock......notice they wrote "LT1 vette eng", that tells me its not the orginal camaro engine. Either way what is the "1 of 50" crap? I mean come on give a guy a break!!

 

i never took it as him implying that was a "stock LT1" car. i took it as the fact that the guy either converted it to LT1 (most likely not) or that it is in fact a TPI car and that a lot of people who dont know much about our cars think that they are "lt1's" As for the "1 of 50" part...then why is this guy selling this SUPER RARE car for so cheap? that is what i am geting at.....it just gets old seeing all of these "1 of ......" cars that are not really 1 of anything. the guy doesnt even go into what it is 1 of 50 of....

 

Whenever i would run into a thirdgen owner who didnt know much about his car or cars in general,i would as what he has in it.more times than not they would tell me LT1.I would ask if its original and they would say yes.After popping th hood i would see it would be an L98 or LB9.Point is alot of people who dont know these cars,for some reason,get TPI and LT1 confused.

 

I know this is old but that car might have in fact been factory. I just spoke to a guy that has a 90' Iroc with a factory LT1....they were options you had to special order. He showed me the original build sheet and the sales sticker. Apparently my buddy has one too...I thought he was just trying to pull one over on me since I didn't know much about Camaros at the time but I'm willing to bet he had one. It's a 90' Iroc as well.

 

Yeah, the LT1 wasn't installed in either of those cars. Not by GM at least.

The LT1 wasn't available in the Camaro or Firebird until '93. That's the 4th generation car for those not in the know. There were no 3rd gen cars "special ordered" or whatever with these engines. The fact that you brought up an old thread that says the LT1 didn't exist until '92 in the Corvette, and then state that you are now aware of 2 of them, is just bogus information. They don't exist. If your friend has one, it's a transplant!! The guy your talking to about one is a moron!

 

More nonsense. I'm waiting for people to claim that their car came with an LS1. A special 1 of 2 or a "test car." The technology didn't exist then but someone will still say so.

 

Unless there was a very rare RPO code for the LT1, or unless there is a response from a gm engineer, there's no way the "LT1", probably "LT-1" was factory.

@IROCZTWENTYGR8....My 92 came with a ls9 factory, and has the RPO code to prove it.

 

You got the 9 from the RPO C49 above and the S from the 1SZ option in the bottom row, for your Throttle Body RS... Nice try, too obvious.

Thanks John. I just spent 5 minutes looking at the SPID to see where the letters and number came from. If only I read your post first, I could've saved 5 minutes of my life that I'll never get back!!!
