Re: anniversary cars???
The Firebird came out in 1967..the Trans Am, however, was introduced in 1969...so the 25th annv. of the Trans Am is 1994.

Re: anniversary cars???
thank you. so why did the firebird not get the 25th aniv. badges?
Re: anniversary cars???
Because GM bases the anniversary of Firebirds on the Trans Ams, while the Camaros don't have a "premier model" to base it on. Besides, who wants anniversary editions on matching years?

Re: anniversary cars???
And if you get really technical about it the Firebird was introduced 6 months after the Camaro in '67.The only special edition Firebird, other than the T/A anniversary/pacecar cars as AmorgetRS points out,was the '76 black & gold Special Edition Trans Am celebrating Pontiac's 50th Anniversary(which gave way to the black/gold SE that everyone calls the "Smokey and the Bandit" version). That's like this year being the Camaro's 40th anniversary but not as much is being made for the Firebird(that I know of).
Re: anniversary cars???
Pontiac is all about the Trans Am heritage. They did the 10th anniversary, 15th anniversary, 20th anniversary, 25th anniversary, and 30th anniversary. Chevrolet took advantage of the Camaro's heritage in 1992 and 97, with dash badges and embroidered headrests. To really compare Pontiac to Chevrolet you'd have to compare the Trans Am to the Corvette. The anniversary hoopla matches better that way.

Re: anniversary cars???
dont forget about the 35th anniversary firebird Trans Am made in 02. those yellow cars say collector edition all over them, but they are very commonly know as the 35th anniversary

Re: anniversary cars???
IMHO, I wouldn't call them very commonly known as 35th Anniversary... they are all called CEs, or Collector Editions, at least over at LS1Tech. Its a 35th Anniversary SS and a Firebird CE.

Re: anniversary cars???
But I want to now why the 20th anniversary Camaros were only on the convertibles. I have a 87 IROC T-top and would like to have it as a anniversary model. Adam :-)

Re: anniversary cars???
well, they did make a blue bird in 78, a red bird in 79, and a yellow bird in 80. but they were not anniversary cars, just secretary cars. the yellow bird we were talkin about is the 2002 collector edition, or what i like to call the 35th anniversary Firebird

Re: anniversary cars???
TransAmMan85 hit it right about the special color cars of the late 2 Gen Firebirds.I believe Pontiac did this with the Esprit to capitalize on the popularity of the black/gold(and '78's gold/black)SE T/A for the more sedate set.If you look at the early('82-'84)T/A how popular the black over gold color scheme was(even without the all black T/A of "Knight Rider").Pontiac's flagship was always the T/A as Chevrolet's was the Corvette as Drew pointed out.

Re: anniversary cars???
i would call it that because it was the 35th anniversary of the firebird. even though they made it a firebird trans am. who would buy just a firebird? ha, im just kidding
