Re: how rare is purple haze car?

Purplehaze(code 84)was only available in '92.According to the "Camaro Whitebook" there were 8,588 total produced. It doesn't break down RS,RS vert or Z28,Z28 vert.I remember first seeing them in '92 and thinking cool color name. That someone at Chevy/Fisher must be a Hendrix fan.

Edit:I forgot to add that your color code should be on the SPID decal on the glovebox lid.But make sure the VIN on the decal matches the car.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

I've seen the purple exterior with gray, black, or tan interior. As far as production numbers, you should be able to find out how many were purple, or how many were Z28 convertibles, but GM didn't keep track of combinations. You'll never be able to find out how many Z28 convertibles were purple. Vin number wouldn't change the situation.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

This doesn't have to do with the Camaro specifically,

but when that color came out I liked it so much I got my Monte SS painted Purple Haze, it looked Badass. (hmm...wonder how my 'bird would look Purple Haze?)

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

I too have a purple haze z28 vert. Same color combination as yours. I have not seen another like it till looking at yours in another post (best vert).

Mine came with tan leather interior and a cd player. I picked the car up about a year ago and like I said, yours is the first I have seen like it.

Plenty of hard tops out there most I have seen have the gray or black interior and most of the tan ones I have seen usually have cloth.

Yes, there were more RS PH cars than Z28's its a rule of numbers, the exception would be if the Z28 was offered in a special color that the RS was not, or vise-verse. For example Yellow was only available on the Z28 or IROC in 1987, and only available on the SC in 1988...

I am not 100% positive but in the Purple Haze was for either car, therefore it is logical to conclude that there were more RS's made than Z28's with the purple Haze. Likewise since the Heritage cars are more rare there would be less of those proportionally (sp).

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

I think that would classify as "rare" Therer were 8197 Heritage cars in 1992, of those I would imagine only a handful would have the Heritage package Especially considering it was only offered in that color later in the year.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

The bulk of the confusion with 92's is that every single 92 Camaro says "25th anniversary" on the dash. Not every 92 has the heritage package with the stripes. The stripes are more rare, the dash badge is not. When you say "my purple haze rs is a real 25th ann. does that make it more rare?", the answer is no. Every 92 Camaro is a real 25th anniversary car. The heritage package is the optional part. The best authentication of a heritage car is Z03 on the spid.

Even still, it's still just a sticker package.

I seriously doubt that. I've read in many places that it was only available on RS's. I would have to argue that it was an RS decked out to look like a Z28, or a purple haze z28 with the stripes added. Its not that hard to add heritage stripes, especially if the dealer did it when it was new.

Suit yourself. I have seen them personally and looked at the RPO sticker. The 'vert was at Ragtops Unlimited in Toronto. Original paint car too. Give them a call and ask them about it. They might still have it.

Well I can't be positive, I was just stating that I read in quite a few [what i always believed to be reputable] sources that the purple haze/silver heritage package was only available on RS's. Your the only person i've talked to whose seen a purple heritage Z28. Not saying its impossible, just thought they didnt exist.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

Considering that any vinyl shop can cut the heritage stripes, and the patterns are included with the laser cutting software, it's not HARD to put the stripes on anything.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

Well from my research there were only 863 Purple Haze RS's sold with the IROC rockers and ground effects without the Heritage Package Stripes. Only 1,321 Heritage Edition Z28's were made in 92 as the last one was made at the Van Nuys plant before it was shut down. Out of this number only 55 Z28 coupes were made in this color called "Purple Haze".
The convertibles only came with the red and Chrome badge, the RS came with the Yellow RS and Red 25th monicker on the dash panel passenger side.

The Purple Haze/Hawaiian Orchid color was available on 1992 cars. My car has silver and black interior with a 305. This was the common type that people sought after for the RS. It is rare. The Hagerty price quote maxes out at around $16K, but the price is climbing in value.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

Yes there were just a few Purple Haze Z28's made. They are rare. The majority of the Heritages were White and Red Convertibles, but collectors also seek the Green and Gold ones. I have only seen one real one. The rest are knock offs like may people have stated you can still buy the GM package kit but without the matching Invoice from the Dealer its not an original. Mine is a numbers matching RS.

Purple Haze is one of the 4 colors you can get the Z03 package on for the z28. Red, black, white,Purple only on the z28. Here's a true Z03 car.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

"Rare" implies increased value. I've yet to see anything that suggests there is enough demand for purple thirdgens to raise the value.

Purple is right up there with Yellow. It's a polarizing color. For every person that thinks it's the greatest color ever, you'll find one that doesn't "get it".

Short of a low mileage B4C, I think we're still several years away from a $16K RS, even if it is purple.

Purple Haze Metallic was never a favorite color for me. I did own a Purple Haze Z28 convertible, though. I learned that some people simply LOVE that color. When I ended up selling it in order to get into another car, it sold very quickly.

863 Purple Haze RS's sold with the IROC rockers and ground effects
The rockers were different. No Iroc had the 91-92 rockers, and in those years, EVERY Camaro had them.

I personally like the color, especially with Tan interior.

....and I would think that with survivor/mint/original cars really jumping in value in the past few years, compared to other clean, although maybe not original cars, a "rare" color would in fact translate into value. I know "we" always say rare doesn't mean valuable, but I think in this case it does. My favorite combos for 91/92 were white/tan and red/tan or red/red. ....but if I found a purple/tan z28, with the heritage stripes, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Which transmission is in the Purple Convertible?

Touch-up that lower fascia, quick! Looks like the white one came out of Virginia.

Touch-up that lower fascia, quick! Looks like the white one came out of Virginia.
So the 92 Vert has a 305 LB9 TPI with a 700R4 Auto. I have a 96 LT1 from a Road Master ready for a transplant. Gonna be fun.
And yes I intend on getting the front Facia repainted.
I have to finish the White 87 (yes I found it in Va Beach, Va.)first.

yes C&C t-tops have had so many people argue with me when I tell them I have a 1992 5.7 t-top. I had a guy that works only on third gen basically call me a liar until he saw the car.

Why were they arguing with you about aftermarket T tops? I can see why they would argue if you said they were CC1 factory T tops.

Most Third Gen guys would know that there were no factory T tops on L98 Camaro’s in 92, so aftermarket was the only way to get them. I would have never cut apart a new Camaro to have aftermarket T tops, but it must have been important to some buyers.

Re: how rare is purple haze car?

Hi,

I just ran across this thread and the car pictured is now mine...purchased several years back from SC. I do have the build sheet and console RPO's that confirm the Camaro is a true 1992 Camaro Z28 Heritage Edition in Purple Haze with Silver stripes. The car currently has 51,000 original miles and recently went through an extensive repaint/partial restoration process due to some previous paint issues and setting for several years in Chicago.

Can I pick your brain on painting? My 92 Heritage red z28 has 59k miles. I have been on the fence of repainting or not.

Let me know how you want to communicate.

Thanks

Manny
