Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

Found this site by accident, but it lists all the different wheels for Firebirds from 78-02. http://www.wheelcollision.com/pontiac5.htm

Anyway, these wheels listed for '82-'84 Are not the turbocast, nor the turbofinned. They look similar to the turbofin, but if you look at the pics you can definitely see a difference. I've never seen any wheels like this before. Where these wheels actually available or does the site have some wrong information?? Regardless, the wheels are real...just maybe from a different car??

Re: Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

i dont know if they are factory but a freind of mine had a 83 t/a with those wheels on it, i just rember because the front two were like the silver and the back ones were thicker fined than the front ones, actually looked pretty cool, but he was alway trying to find ones to match the back and dont think he ever did.

The darker one looks like the turbofinned wheel, the lighter one looks like a wheel for a front wheel drive car.

Wildjeff the left wheel does look like it's a front drive wheel due to the offset but it's in the Firebird section.I guess the best way would be to call or email them. That's a nice site you found 1982TA.

The left wheel is from a 1982-85 Pontiac J2000 with the S/E package. Turds, all of them..

Hmmmmmm.......... Well my GM '82 firebird book and GM invoice for my car says B20 luxury trim group,Also came standard on the S/E hence why they all came with PMD seats.

Gotta bone up on that history man

My build sheet has all that also, minus the doeskin...I have a charcoal interior. Also B20 says map pocket on my build sheet also, however in my parts manual it says B20 is Int. Ornament Luxury.

I seem to remember B20 was the luxury trim group c/w deluxe pallex cloth seats, carpeted rear/kick panels, map pockets, side pockets, aux foot lamps, and rear cargo door.

B20 is the RPO for the deluxe interior which includes the map pocket, PMD seats and a bunch of other stuff.

On 82 and 83 build sheets for cars built in Van Nuys it does indeed say "B20 MAP POCKET" however for cars built in Norwood, the build sheet says "B20 INT ORNA DLX". The description is just a description, it is the code that counts.

All the other references I have seen say B20 is for the deluxe interior.

On 83 and 84 Norwood cars the option for T-tops is misspelled, it reads “CC1 HTACH ROOF” but it is spelled correctly on Van Nuys build sheets. You would think someone would have caught that.

Re: Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

Yeah, a relative of mine had the rims on left on her J2000 toilet, dunno if it was an S/E. I've seen the second ones on two early T/As in the boneyards and I also saw them on a early 80's Grand Prix LJ edition at a car show. I think they stopped the LJ option in 83? Grand Prixs were a great car once, now they are commuter cars and fleet vehicles.

I've got an '86 with B20...Luxury trim option according to the RPO decoder. I also have the Leather Trim NP5 RPO and the "Nice version" of the dash mounted map pocket, door map pockets, etc....but not the cargo door. That is another RPO option, can't remember what RPO.

Re: Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

Ok so B20 could have been a Van nuys thing or B20 could have been a later RPO package group. My car appears to have several different RPO's for it's delux interior components such as

B20 map pocket
D42 rear window shade
U25 rear luggage light
U29 Courtesy lights
D27 LD FLR CVR (REAR LIFT UP FLOOR COVER PERHAPS)
B34 carpeted floor mats
BS? SOMETHING TO DO WITH A INSULATION PACKAGE
B48 Bagg compt TR (whatever this is?)
YR2 DLX FR ST
YS2 DLX RR ST
YT1 CUST DR & QTR P
Y06 CPT K/PAD

That is why I don't see how B20 could have been a package in early f-bodies since everything that made the delux interior was broken down into seperate RPO's But perhaps like stated it a Norwood/Van nuys thing .... but being a map pocket could have been ordered on a base firebird and it probably carried the B20 code as well. I also found a code for locking lug nuts on mine PB4 ... Funny though mine was a 14" N89 car.

HAHAHA .... upper scale interior yet lacked the nice stuff everywhere else

Sorry to stay off topic but the RPO’s on the build sheet are used for assembly not ordering. That is why everything is broken out, so the assembly line worker doesn’t have to remember every little detail. When someone ordered B20 it triggered all the options that made up the option package GM called the deluxe interior or “Luxuy Trim Group”. This included AK9, the deluxe seats, map pocket and other things.

B20 was an orderable option that ranged from $299.00 to $844.00 in 82 for the firebird (not sure about Camaro pricing) there is no way a simple map pocket cost that much and remember this is 82 dollars.

Re: Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

The wheel on the right was a 14x6 inch wheel available on the 82-84 Firebird SE and a few of the 83-84 Trans AM's. It was offered as an alternative to the bowling ball style wheels. One of my 83's came new with a set of them. The front and rear wheels were the same. Charles

I think the 14" version was part of the base Trans Am suspension RPO Y99. If you ordered WS6, then you could get a 15" version of the same wheel.

I looked at WildJeff's site - great info:

B48 = rear luggage cover - part of luggage trim package
B20 also included carpeted door panels, the split folding rear seat, and upgraded front seats (pallex low back bucket, cloth Lear Siegler or leather LS)

Re: Strange wheels 82-84 Pontiac Wheels...

I believe you are correct. My first 83 was a WS7, and it had the 15x7 inch version of that wheel. My second 83 was a WS6 and it also had the 15x7 inch version of that same wheel. My third 83 was the base model and had the 14x6 inch wheel just like in the picture, except the background was painted grey. The odd thing about the base model, is that people were always asking me where the hub caps were? It had the small black hub covers with the Firebird emblem on them. I think that most of the 14x6 inch finned wheels were on the Firebird SE. Note in the 1983 Dealer Book the picture of an SE with those wheels. Charles
