Re: 84 l69,ws6 and 3.73. auto
Pretty common combo...
IIRC there were somewhere in the 10,000ish neighborhood of those made, out of the 50-odd thousand T/As that year.
Sorry it has the auto, the 5-speed is much faster and just an all-around better car, as well as much "rarer". For whatever difference "rare" makes.

I was not aware that the L69 was available with an Auto...

In '84 you could get the L69/700R4 combination in the Z28 and I don't see why the T/A would have been different(but then we are talking about GM).But '84 was the only year for the auto with the L69(again in the Z28).
With the 700R4's first gear and a 3.73 rear gear that would make for a jump off the line.

Yep, you could get the L69 with an auto in the T/A for 84, pretty common combo but still

Your correct, I was mistaken..
In 1983, 1985 & 1986 it was a Manual only thing on the L69., Probably because it was the top engine that year with no FI option on the V8. But there were 18,037 Auto L69's and 7,051 Manual L69 cars made in 1984. All other years were M5 only.

well then thats acutally a good thing. thanks for clarifying. now i won't feel so bad when i decide to throw a 383 stkr in her. i was a little on the wall about what mods i would want to do. i might even take that auto out and throw a 6 spd in it. in all due time.
sorry for sounding like a newbe. i have owned 4 other birds in my time, but never paid much attention to the rpo codes. so who knows what they had.
thanks agian guys. i appreciate it.

I parted out an '84 L69 auto with the 3:73 gears. The axle now resides in my car, as will the rust free quarters one of these days. Your car is now one of 9,999

Re: 84 l69,ws6 and 3.73. auto
I know a local junk yard has a really decent L69. I checkedthe VIN "G", it was an 84. I asked about the hood which had quite a bit of surface rust as it appeared to be the original paint. It even had the original hood scoop decal... About the hood he said $1000... I thought he was joking. but then he said he saw one on ebay for that amount... I told him what he saw on ebay was probably an aluminum hood not the steel hood has he has. I wanted to tell him that I got an aluminum hood for $15 not too long ago but the guy was a *****. I got some factory rear subwoofer speaker enclosures from an 86 for $10 and he was still a ***** about it after I got a quote from him...

First Okfoz I had to make a note of you making a boo-boo....LOL(and you forgot the might be clause).I try not to but find myself failing at the trying.
That's the bad result of Ebay that just because one sold for that much then all are worth that.CFI parts lately have gone that way(but I think this is more due to the Corvette).I've paid to much more than once but have gotten good deals that balance it out on Ebay. And some salvage yards have gotten out of hand these days(and not just for 3rd GensAnd then there's the "Knight Rider" tag that goes on a lot of Firebird parts.Sorry to be off topic but i didn't want to start another thread.

coolram62. thats why i want to get back into this now (buying a t/a) and not waite like i was going to. i see the prices of all 3rd gens going up. these are some really fantastic looking cars. camaro and firebird alike. i don't mean to offend the guys who have the 4th gens, but imo, the 3rd gens just look more aggressive to me. believe me the wife is not happy about this beings that i have an 2002 harley sitting in the garage with about 23k wrapped in it. but she does understand and has not given me too much lip over it.lol

i just found this. the lg4 was more rare then the l69 but the h/p #'s or lack there of is the reason.
l69- 7,051 lg4- 4,277. 1983 is def a rare year for the l69.
check it out and scroll down to 1984.

That's how much I paid for the one I'll be putting on the 'vert. It's not bent, but it does have several small dents, though none are major, so it shouldn't be too difficult to repair. For only $30, how could I go wrong?! It's also from an '84(white), and it also has the decal(black, and still in good shape). It has the functional mechanism, too, not that I'll be using it.
'84 L69s seem to turn-up in junkyards a lot, at least, here in SoCal they do. I've even come across a few of the rarer '85 and '86 L69s with 3.70 posi/disc/9-bolts.
But to the original poster, congrats on your new car! Have fun with it! And tell us more. What's its ext./int./stripe color combination? Post pix when you can.

someone has repainted it some time ago and didn't bother to put the decals bac on. but after looking up the rpo's for the original colors. they are brilliant red metalic and the decals are2 tone med gray and black. i'm not sure if i'm going to put the correct color stripes on it. i think i'm goin to go with met silver with everything. even the bulge on the hood. here are some pics.

Wow that is a nice find and very heavily optioned.Even LS seats with power driver side that appear to be in very good shape themselves.
It's interesting the L69 T/A used the LG4's single inlet air cleaner base.I know the T/A has limited front air inlet but it would have been a good addition to air induction setup. It only works in closed loop at more than 75%throttle.And the correct overflow container is there for the second snorkel(my '83 CFI Z28 has it too).I know the '82 version is different and there was a different version for cars with cruise to ones with out cruise.Between '83 and what ever year it switched to the intake pump did all F-bodys receive the same overflow/washer containers?
And I apologize for this non-3rd Gen question but is that a Mercury or Lincoln sitting next to her?
