Car: Not an IROC
Did they really make a brown IROC?
i drove several cars through the 1980s, but i never remember a brown IROC.
recently though, i ran across that apparently rare color code on camarosource.ca
for the life of me, i don't remember a brown exterior 1987 IROC Camaro
did these really get made?

If you notice the abbreviation for the IROC is Zci and it's not in the column for dark brown. That's not to say one wasn't built but I highly doubt it.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
my bad...
still, that would have been impressive.
EDIT: so based on the above chart, there was at least a Z28 offered with brown metallic exterior paint? what i find even weirder than a brown IROC would be a brown Z28 with a black interior.
unless there is a difference between the interior code "BK" and "Bk"

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
It's easy to overlook items like that in columns.Dark brown with gold wheels and stripes/decals would have looked good.Try looking through the parts catalogs to track something down. And the medium grey would have been another good IROC color. They had the dark grey single line IROC wheels so that would have looked nice with say red stripes/decals.
EDIT:And dark grey was available in '88 in the IROC(but different code so different hue grey I guess)so the same goes for me looking at abbreviations in columns.

There's an old lady that lives down the road from me with a Brown 84 Z28 with a T5, no AC and a Brown Vynal interior. I've lived here for 8 years and the car has not been driven in all that time.
I've tried to buy it several times but she gave it to her son and he's not selling !!!! I've opened the car door once and it smelled so Bad I had to close the door - FAST ! It's parked in the woods and the mice have made a hotel out of it !

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
The brown z28's with gold gfx look great, IMO. It would be interesting to see a brown IROC with gold stripes, gold wheels and a tan interior. Anyone besides me think it would look good?

Car: Not an IROC
Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
my neighbor recently attempted to restore a brown 79 TA... until a drunk kid smashed into it with his truck while the TA was parked next to the sidewalk one night.
i'll admit i'm not big on brown cars, but this one looked nice complete with the gold firebird hood decal.
so was the L98 engine an option for the 1987 Z28?
according to what i'm reading, the large 5.7L engine was not an option on the Z28 that year.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
As far as I know, and have read, the B2L/L98 350 was an IROC only option. The top motor in the Z28 was the LB9 305(but again I maybe incorrect).
I also had a friend that bought a brown '79 T/A new.It was a nice combination with the gold decals and saddle interior.
And 3rdGenWillie there isn't a brown listed as a color option for Camaro's in '89.http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...trim&year=1989

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
Are you sure it's a '89(tenth digit of the VIN - K)and it's an IROC?And when you say tu-tone do you mean the GFX section is a different color or just the stripes. Is this someone you know to ask and possibly look at the SPID decal in the console(make sure the VIN matches the car)?
And Klortho that is a beauty. It's lighter than the brown used on the 2nd Gen.And by the name russet does it have some red in it up close?

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
That's what GM calls the color, when I went to the paint shop to get the paint for my car, I remember them saying it had some red, but also gold perl in it.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
Brown was never an option on the IROC-Z. There is a rust color that could be mistaken for it in certain lighting, but it was never 2 toned.

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
I am NOT a brown fan by any means but the GTa bove looks really sweet. When I look at the pictures there is enough red in it that it pops, (now I will get bashed for sying there is red in the paint)...

Re: Did they really make a brown IROC?
You would think they were actually produced, seeing as how I've seen so many of them painted that color or similar over the years. One of them didn't look so great though, it had a red interior
