was it worth the money?
hey all, just bought an 87 iroc with 48000 miles on the clock, engine is seized..was the car worth it? I paid $500 bucks for it, i think im ahead so far,as the body is perfect, only thing wrong with the grey interior is the headliner is sagging and a slight tear in the drivers seat. no rust on the underside.
anyhow, i'll leave my rpo codes here for you guys to tell me.. unfortunately i dont have a way to decode them and post, as my printer is shot, and the decoder will only print, not save. there are some that are just question marks (bottom of post) that i am wondering on as well.
here ya go..

I'll post pics later on this week when i can

Re: was it worth the money?
Would the 'b42' in your code list be 'b4Z'? That's one of the codes for the IROC package.
I think you did alright in buying the car for $500. Especially since you say it's rustfree and low mileage. I'd rebuild the engine and enjoy the car.
I just bought an 87 with a 5.7 and long list of options for $400. Lots of rust and a smoked tranny but, I'm going to try to save it anyway.
Nice find.

Welcome to TGO
As stated above a rustfree straight body puts you way ahead.A car that requires a lot of body work is where some people lose interest. You have one heavily optioned IROC.But as Zwrench suggested check the B42 code as it's mostly B4Z(has to be for her to be an IROC).One question the aren't any "U" codes in the list?I know 1SC package upgraded the radio too but a code for one should still be there.

Re: was it worth the money?
You are most welcome and pictures would be cool to get a better idea.On the codes could the "1HU" be "1HV" -Components of IROC-Z Performance Package(CHEV).And the "B9" group has to do with moldings could the "K" be something else(unless someone comes up with it)?

Re: was it worth the money?
i'll have to go and check it out again, pretty sure i got it all down correct.
had another question regarding heads.. will i be able to use the tpi setup on different heads, or are these the vortec style heads with weird intake bolt holes? i have some "ho" heads from a different engine with 58cc chambers i was going to use on the new 305 going into the car, and wanted to know if they would work. they arent centerbolt (valvecover) heads.
thanks again!

Re: was it worth the money?
How do I know about ICBC? I am Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, moved to Burnaby BC, got married and moved to Georgia with my wife (American). BC= Bring Cash. Most beautiful place I have ever lived, and most likely never live there again. Too expensive.

Re: was it worth the money?
nope they arnt vortec heads, it should bolt up just fine, may need to reangle the a couple of holes a tad on the intake depending on the heads.. no big deal really.
