Can I Find My Old Car?
First of all -- I'm new here.. Thanks a million for an incredible website/forum.
I've owned 13 Camaros now -- and currently have a 72SS, 86 Z28, and an 87 IROC-Z28. The 72 is almost perfect.. the 86 getting there.. and the 87 is gonna need a lot of attention. I'll be here for help on that one.
Back in 1989 I bought an IROC-Z brand new. It was great.. but, I had no money and it was repossessed. I've pined for it ever since. Is there any way to find out what happened to that specific car? It's been almost 20 years.. so, I don't have the VIN laying around. It was the first car ever in my name.. is there a way to name search on CarFax and trace a car that way?
Also, does anyone have a car with the same color scheme and options? I'd love to get some pics in an attempt to make the 87 look a lot like the 89 I used to have.
It was a white hard top IROC-Z. Red IROC decals, red and black stripe above the ground effects. 5.7 ltr option. All red interior -- and I think the seats were all leather .. although I wouldn't argue if it turned out to be cloth in the middle with leather on the outsides.
If you've got this combo or scheme -- or if you have any way to search cars by owners names.. please let me know.
thanks again!!

Sounds like a beautiful car.
Maybe you could contact the DMV in the state you had bought it or was resident in when you owned it. Try to locate the VIN through them. There has got to be a record kept. Or contact the lender.

yeah.. the strange part is it was on my credit for years.. but, now that it's gone.. there's not much I can do to research it. I'm sure the vin was on the credit report too.
Figured I might be able to search by my name.. not the vin.
I'll let you know.

If you can find the VIN on insurance forms, Titles, transfer of titles etc. If you have any paperwork... You might have a letter of reposession stating the VIN.

Good Luck > I tried finding my 82TA & I have the vin# and no luck. Plus my car has a custom paint job (black with lightning)

Do you still have your plates? Its real hard, i mean thats just the prob, most places only keep the files on record for so long.
I dont want to sound pescimistic, but what are the chances it still looks the same way? Keep searching, but i think its smarter to start with a fresh 1989 iroc, or even your 87, and make it yours.

Call Chevrolet, since you bought it new they keep those records in case of safety issues that might come up. I don't know if they keep records that far back but just like calling dealer, DMV or lender can't hurt to ask.
