Center console SPID location

I constantly hear people state on here that the SPID label is located under the lid in the center console for certain model years. I can't recall hearing anyone state that the label is in the lower portion of the console on the side. I know that my car can't be the only one with the label on the inside side console. Check your car and if it's in the center glove box, where is your label?

Re: Center console SPID location

Scott the location on the console itself makes much more sense than on the lid.To install n impotant service decal on a part that can be easily removed or damaged due to wear wasn't a bright idea.

But then my '73 CST's version of the SPID is on the driver's side inner fender.

Re: Center console SPID location

I can only answer the poll for one car.

Both of my current cars are TA's, side of the console. I'm pretty sure my 84 Firebird they were on the lid.

Re: Center console SPID location

My '84 T/A and the console lid I have from an export-Canadian '84 T/A have the SPID label on the underside of the lid.

A friends '87 IROC has it on the underside of the lid and '88 IROC and '89 RS have the SPID labels on the inside wall of the console glove box.

84's are on the lid.

85 and up (at least up to 90) are on the passenger side of the inside console wall.

Re: Center console SPID location

The label is nowhere on my 1992 Firebird IIRC it was on the lid on my '85 S/E, but I think it was about to fall off...or maybe already had...

On my '84, it was definitely on the bottom of the console lid.

My 90 Formula had it on the side of the console comaprtment

My 88 Camaro had it on the side of the console comparment

My 84 Firebird had it on the bottom inside of the Lid

An 87 Camaro Iroc-Z I swapped a 4th Gen console inot, had it on the bottom inside of the lid.

My 87 Firebird (my 83 T/A didn't have one, but no 82 or 83 3rdgens did) didn't have one.

My 89 RS has it on the inside of the box on the passenger side of the compartment, but I bought a lid off of ebay and it had the SPID on the bottom of the lid. Now my RS has two SPID's

Ok then, it sounds like 87s have a discrepancy. Those with an 87 that have it on the lid, are these by chance Norwood cars. Since people are saying the earlier cars have it on the lid and the later cars are inside, that could mean that Van Nuys was inside and Norwood was on the lid. Any feedback on this one? This could help people restoring their cars place things in the proper location based on build location. If that's the variable.

You're right, many people do tend to post that it's on the lid. But in response to those I've seen say that, I've posted several times that it's on the side, at least, on '87+ birds. I'm not sure when it moved from the lid to the side though.

My '87 Formula is a Norwood car, and the label is on the side.

Re: Center console SPID location

There's no realistic way to put the SPID on the lid on an 85-up Firebird. Not enough space. Prior to that, or the Camaros, its possible because there was a lot more space available.
