This car was told to me to be a rs, but i looked at the pictures, and it has z28 side gxfs, the rs hood.. i was wondering, does this look more like a z28 to you guys than a rs? im going to get this car this weekend, and i want to know for sure what im getting. its a real 25th anniversary. thanks

 

looks good but to be sure what it really is , you would have to run the VIN # . GFX and labels might indicate just a clone . not an uncommon thing . looks pretty good from the pics. .

 

alright, ill run the vin. anything else engine/body wise i should look at? im going to winterville, then back home.. (martin) a good hour drive. dont want it to crap on me miles from home, lol.

 

on the body rust underneath all over the underside , bondo on body , look for waves on fenders and doors , every where . check for big bondo all over with a refrig magnet . engine and tranny , noise , shifting , ect. . if your knowledge is not in that area . take someone with you that knows . good luck .

 

RPO codes? IF the vin on the sticker matches the car then your good on that. if on the list it says z28 than its a z if not is a RS.

As david068513 suggested check the SPID decal in the console(again make sure it's VIN matches the cars).You should find ZO3 - Heritage Package and Z28.Also the eighth digit of the VIN should be either a F(LB9 TPI 305) or 8(B2L/L98 TPI 350)to be a Z28.If the eighth digit is a E(LO3 TBI 305)then she is an RS(base motor for RS coupe is the 191ci V6 VIN digit T - LHO).You will also find the engine RPOs on the SPID.

Also shouldn't the passenger side GFX emblem be red to match the one on the bumper?She is a nice looking F-body.

 

Check the compartment on the left side of hte hatch. Under the door is the SPID list. Take a picture of it or find out what the code is for Z28 and look for it... Is it just Z28?

 

yes my stock 92 z have sliver on the side and red on the back. Its werid I know lol

You can check to see if it's got the TPI also. All 91-92 Zs had TPI. If it doesn't, you'll have to see if it's got the TBI (Which will seal the deal for RS) or a carb (Which just says it's a heavily modded car).

That thing looks damn dirty, but I bet she'll shine up real, real nice!


By the way, Im sure it's an RS. The fact that it looks just like a Z28 and the guy told you it was an RS should tell you that it's a clone and he's being honest and up front with you about that. I'd take his word for it and I'd definitely see it as a good sign that you're dealing with an honest seller!

 

if it is an RS they did nice work filling the spoiler holes and matching the paint or it had new all new paint after that high rise spoiler was put on. I noticed rear graffics are a different shade of white though & see on front bumper where paint peeled and grey primer is underneath ... did GM use grey primer ???? .... I think your going to find it's a Z-28 that had front bumper and hood replaced at one time

 

well the owner says its a z28 and his wife says its a RS

They said they repainted the car.

 

Well, he needs to convince them he should only pay for an RS.

 

also he was told it is a 305 5speed. ....lucky him...

 

got him on the phone today. its a rs, z28 clone in the making. i might as well get rs badges to go on it. but yeah, its a tbi 305 rs. thanks for the help all.
