1988 firebird formula ws6

Not too sure if this is the right forum but.... I'm looking at buying a formula for $2000. I haven't gone to see it yet but from what I've been told from the seller and his add, It's a 5.0 tpi auto, WS6, posi (disc???), white exterior, black interior (appearently in really good shape), has had body work done to it, no rust under car, needs front brakes, tires are low, and paint has been done recently with a couple of runs in it (interested to see if it's actually a couple). Passed emmissions within the past year as well. what do you guys think? I'm wondering if I should pick it up and fix and sell, or part it out... I'm going to see it on friday so any pointers or comments are greatly appreciated. I think it would be a good car to part out but if it is good under car and not too much cheese, I'd hate to tear her apart. hmm, I wonder if I could wet sand out runs.... I have a 89 Camaro that I want to spend time on more then this bird but if it's worth it the Camaro can be put on hold for a little bit.... Thanks guys, Charles

if she's complete and in good shape why tear her apart?! you don't spend $2000 on a parts car your just going to part out unless you need 3/4 of the stuff outta the car then i suppose you should do it. I mean personally a couple years down the road i'm going to need a roller, but why mess with a good thing. I vote to fix it up and sell it, even if you don't make much more than you invest your keeping another bird for someone else to enjoy down the road. Keep it if you get it!!

Re: 1988 firebird formula ws6

true, but I don't want the car. I'm thinking it would be a good way to make some cash. Out of all the birds the formula is my fav (the GTA looks too big and heavy in my opinion) but I don't have space to keep her, or the extra money to fix her up the way I'd want to. Heck it's taking me a lot of time and money to do the Camaro up the way I want to. I agree with you, it's a waste of a good car, but it's worth more (I think...) to part it out. I mean if I could pick it up, give her a good enough fix to pass cert and emissions (which it did recently) and sell her for $5000, hey cool with me. I just don't know how long I'd have to sit on it.

A third Gen is a bad investment. You could invest in other areas and make more profit. $2000. is not a "deal". A guy pulling a 68 out of the field and says 50.00 is a deal, 2000.00 for a fu firebird is stupid.

5000.00 you will sit on it til the value goes up again???? if you got a good looking one you might sell it for 3500.00 but you would still have to wait alittle bit

Re: 1988 firebird formula ws6

I don't know why but it seems that the cars up here go for a little bit more then down there. I was talking to a buddy tonight and he said a buddy of his just bought a mint one for 4000. I dunno, I'm more or less thinking out loud about this car. I thought it would be good to get some different opinions.
I think I could definately get my money back from it, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the hassel in the long run. Originally I was thinking about parting it out, but the car sounds too good for that now. I think I'm gonna let someone else pick it up for a good price and hopefully it will be a good starting place for someone. Heck my Camaro had a 2.8 in it when I got it. A 305 is a way better starting place. Thanks for your help guys, as blunt as it may have been.

Depending on the condition and the options I know locally I can turn cars reasonably easily... I have never lost money.
