Old Third Gen Concept Car?
Dose anyone know what the Concept that was used for our Generation car looked like. Possibly have a pic.
Just wondering. I wasn't around at this point in history so I can't possibly have a memory of it.
Maybe they just didn't do concepts back then.

Re: Old Third Gen Concept Car?
there's a book out there, called "camaro, the third generation" written by michael lamm.
your local library might have it, i know amazon.com does.
i vaguely remember the book showing some concept photos, but i haven't seen a copy in probably 2 years?

I'm a personal fan of the one-off retired test mule that's known popularly as an '87 or '88 Iroc Concept

Heh, I never even heard or seen that before until I played Gran Turismo 4.
Even then, I didn't think that was real. . .
Too bad the rear GFX didn't make into production models.

Re: Old Third Gen Concept Car?
I wouldn't refer to that car as a concept in any way. It started as an 87 IROC-Z and was used for component durability testing. GM would use cars like this to test a 350/5 speed setup and see if the car could handle it. They would also create hp and see if the body and suspension can take the stress. They were probably testing for higher hp/torque ratings and body flex.

I know that. Just it's popularly referred to as that because of Gran Turismo 4.

The original thinking was to have the 3rd Gen FWD with V6 power. If you look close elements did make into the FWD Berlinetta. But the rear of the one resembles the Pontiac Aztec IMHO.

Re: Old Third Gen Concept Car?
It looks more like a Monza than a Camaro.
Good Eye !
Here are a few more pictures from that book. They show the Pre-Prototype Third Gen; basically a car that was hacked together and used for testing. It's a pretty good book with a lot of little details.........

Re: Old Third Gen Concept Car?
A couple of those slighty resemble corvette body lines. I'm glad they didnt put any of those into production.
