Looking for June 1990 issue of Hot Rod magazine

Looking for the June 1990 issue of "Hot Rod" magazine. A 3rd gen I just bought was featured in an article titled "Going Solo." I have a photocopy of the article but wonder if anybody has the original magazine and would be willing to part with it.

You might try contacting Hot Rod Magazine directly, magazines can usually sell back copies.

Maybe I need to start unloading my "Rolling Stone" magazines from the '80s.

My car? The engine and drivetrain are in great shape as it's been built to go fast and turn hard. The engine blew up sometime in the late '90s and has an engine from an '89 in it that was built to SCCA Solo Street Prepared rules (i.e., can't do much, just a basic refresh).

The front half of the interior carpet isn't that great. Has some holes from where it had a 6-point rollbar, and it still has a 4-point bar. The plan is to take out the rollbar, as it doesn't do that much except add excess weight, and get a new carpet.

The headliner sags badly, so that's another thing that's going to get replaced. But the door panels still look pretty good. The dash is almost perfect, no cracks or anything.

The car was painted purple (everybody calls the car ****ing "Barney"), going by the folder of receipts that came with the car, around 1992. It would probably need to be repainted again if somebody wanted it to pimp around town. Although I'm going to clay bar and wax it this weekend, so hopefully it will look a little better.

Most recently, it won an SCCA Solo National Championship in 2002 with my friend Sam Strano driving. A local guy, Tyler Stewart, bought it after that and autocrossed it fairly regularly for a few years. I got to drive it three times over the years, won my first SCCA Pro Solo trophy with it in 2003.

Tyler started roadracing a Miata and didn't touch the Camaro much. I think he only autocrossed it once or twice over the past couple years.

Anyway, I was looking to buy it when I found out Tyler was quietly looking for a seller. As I still haven't sold my 4th gen LS1 Camaro, my friend Eric decided to go in half with me so we can autocross it for at least this year.

Eric and I autocrossed it last Sunday and although it was raining and we didn't have rain tires, the car did pretty well, IMO. Nothing glaring that the car needs, it basically drives itself. Another buddy who has driven it in the past likens it to a Z06 but without the power.

I'll have to scan the article when the magazine comes in and get some pictures of the car as it sits now. Maybe "Hot Rod" would want to do a "Where are they now?" story?

If the rollbar/cage is welded in, you'll probably pick up a fair bit of body flex by removing it. Even the hardtops flex pretty bad without SFC's and bracing.

It's a bolt-in rollbar. SFCs are legal now in the class, but the car doesn't have them yet.

Here's a scan of the article:

I'll try and get some pics of the car this weekend.

Here's a teaser from this past Sunday:
