87 350 question

i just picked up a 350 4 bolt main engine. wheni ran the numbers on the block i found out that it came from a 87 camaro. now my questio is about the cam .after inspecting the block and cam i noticed that it has non roller lifters in it but has the roller lift hold down plate holes in the center . now is it possible to run regular hydralic lifters in the motor ? cause if im correct in 87the 350 offered came with a roller camshaft. need some light shed on this

Re: 87 350 question

Sure its possible to run regular or roller lifters in that block. As stated above though, it did not come out of a Camaro, probably came from a truck of some sort regardless of what you used to translate the 'numbers' from the block.

Re: 87 350 question

Either you identified the numbers wrong or you are mistaken on the 4-bolt mains. Because as stated in the other Posts NO 350 TPI engine never had a 4-bolt main in a 3rd gen car.

The xxxxx638 number, right? That wont tell you what it was in, you need the numbers off the pad in the front of the block by the passenger side cylinder head.

Re: 87 350 question

wow it amazing that none of you "smart guys" who apparently know more than the book that i picked up that is made by gm , completly missed my whole question about the roller lifters. but hey thanks anyways for nothing , my question was answered by chevy anyway and i think you all need to read some new books because your all wrong. both numbers on the front and the casting number on the back of the block on the passenger side identify as it coming from a camaro. and oh did i say thanks for nothing but avoiding my original question????

Re: 87 350 question

well if that is how you feel by all means continue to go to the stealership for answers and parts. and i dont recall anyone in this thread ever saying that we know more than the book. and i do believe that madmax answered your question about the lifters. which if you missed it was your original question.

I answered it.

As for your smart/stupid statement, how about you post up this casting number that says its from a Camaro?
