How rare is this?
I have a 1992 Formula Firebird Factory Canary Yellow Paint. I have been told that Canary Yellow Firebirds are rare is that true?

Re: How rare is this?
26 was the number I got from the 2003 or 2004 Trans Am nationals... I am not sure if that was Yellow Formulas or Yellow Firebirds and Formulas...
Actually the color name is Jamacia Yellow RPO 52U
What other options do you have? You should have WS6 and at least a V8 and no Ground effects...

Re: How rare is this?
i have power locks and windows, electronic trunk. A 305, gray interior i have a full list of my rpo codes that i just got today but i have no idea exactly what options are on the car.
I am also new to these cars so i dont know what to look for or what ws6 is... but i wanna learn as much about this glorious machine as possible. Also the guy i bought it from said it was a formula but it doesnt have the formula sig on the side.

Open the rear lock compartment and there should be a sticker with a list of codes, that shows the options.

No offense taken. It was on my phone. I dont know much about the car. It has the ground effects to so it is not a formula. I will get better pics with my digital camera when i get a chance.

Re: How rare is this?
Yep, just a regular base Firebird like mine. When I got my car I didn't know jack about 3rd gens and the guy I got it from told me it was a Formula. It even said Formula on the title even though it's not. You don't have WS6, but you do have W68, which is just an appearance package. Good looking car though, I love the yellow.

They made about 14 of them IIRC... 14 is the number Frankie Rider has on his page...

I believe there are some pictures of a destroyed one on the page also, so take that number down to 13 now.

Re: How rare is this?
I would guess any '92 Firebird in Jamaica Yellow, regardless of model, is a rare one. That looks like a nice car to me.
There was somebody on eBay recently auctioning some '92 yellow GTA parts off, so I guess that would mean just 13 cars left that were originally sold in the USA. Maybe even less than that.... who knows?

Re: How rare is this?
What is discouraging is the fact that many junk yards never report that they have a car... I have written down burned, wrecked completely trashed F-bodies VINs and they still come back as clean... What good is CARFAX when the people that are suposed to report such things do not... I personally own a car that I bought off of a Local Junkyard and it still has a clean title... you can't open the Drivers door but it has a clean title... Its the Emissions stations that cannot read an Odometer that do the reports...
My guess would be that about Half or Less of the cars from our era are still on the road... I would guess about 10% of the cars that are left are nice or better, most of the 3rd Gens are Crushed, someones personal Parts car or such bad condition that they are worth less than what it would cost to make them nice. Put it this way, I own 6 3rd Gens, 3 of them are Definate Parts cars, 1 is a possible maybe, and 2 are nice... Of all the 3rd Gens I have owned One I sold was pretty nice, the other could have easily become my 4th Parts car.

I got 2 speeding tickets in 1 day. One for 3 miles over the speed limit and one or 8. The cops keep giving me problems with this car and its pissing me off!

Re: How rare is this?
If you're in the middle of downtown Knoxville, or on 640, or 275....run the speed limit.....I counted 6 cops with people pulled over in less than a 5 mile stretch.
Don't get rid of the car because of that, just be carefull.
I'm currently driving a Bright Red '98 Trans Am and if that isn't a police getter anything is, and haven't had any problems, I just keep it at the speed limit.

Yeah, they are legal here. Cops frown on them, but hey, we get them so we don't have to see the cops. lol. I would get a radar after you pay those tickets man. Don't get rid of the car.

Re: How rare is this?
3 over??? Really? That's easily fought in court. Generally, if they got you with radar and you were traveling in a 55 mph or under zone, and you were traveling less than 10 mph over the posted speed limit the court should throw that out, unless you have priors or are on probation. If they were pacing you, the officer has no chance of testifying that you were speeding 3 over. Even with his speedometer calibrated. 99.9% of all cops in the U.S.of A would be embarrassed to testify to 3 miles over.

Re: How rare is this?
It's in a major area where they have the interstate shut down, and traffic rerouted on the bypasses. The local PD has said they are going to crack down on people speeding through these areas and not following the speedlimit. Basically, it's a very large construction zone.

Re: How rare is this?
Yes, construction zones are a big deal. Civil service and private construction unions are pushing for strict enforcement, as they should due to the tragic deaths of many road workers each year. Fines are usually doubled but the caveat is there must be a sign that reads '"construction Zone" 1/8 mile prior to entering work area. (Federal Law.)

Fines are doubled here in CA in const zones too.
Its amazing signs out there saying begin const zone and I have never seen any const.
Can we say revenue enhancement.
3 over is pretty ****, hell at my age I cant see the numbers that close.
Just how bad is it there, I am thinking of moving there, but with my "always over the posted" driving style I dont want to build a new fwy for them.

Re: How rare is this?
It's not bad here in TN at all. Some of the cops are **** as hell, but for the most part we're peaceful like everyone else. lol.
But dude, don't sell that bird. Keep it and fix it up how you want it, but hey, if you get dead set on getting rid of it, let me know. I may be interested.

I'm just a citizen. lol. Maybe I should have italicized "cops" or something. I meant everyone in general.. like some of the cops are ****, but for the most part all of us citizens are peaceful. lol.

Re: How rare is this?
The problem is that i am under age. (Being only 17) my parents got pissed off about the tickets and are forcing me to sell the car. It has to be gone in the next 2-3 weeks. The engine and trans were rebuilt and only have 60k on them so i dont want to sell at all. But if you are interested pm me an offer.

Tell your parents its not the car its the cops and that you are a young kid.
A friend of my daughters inherited a Suburban with full tinted side windows. He father had driven it that way for almost 8 years. She had it less than 6 months and got a tinted window ticket.
I would get stopped because "you dont look old enough to drive". Then get some dumb fixit ticket.
Until my son turned almost 30 he was constantly being followed around town by cops when driving his 66 mustang.

Re: How rare is this?
Apparently there were 41 or 47 Formulas made in this color (including the very first 1992 F-body built, VIN sequence # 000001, with the 1LE package - out of 1052 total Formulas), 14 GTAs (out of 508 total GTAs), and 23 base Firebirds.
I picked this quote off of an ls1 forum. Is it accurate? Cause if so i have one of the 23.

Oh man, you need to move out, and keep the car. You should be able to do that at 17, as far as I know. lol... I left at 16... but that was 15 years ago, lol. That, or borrow the money from somewhere, hide the car and title in a storage building, SOMETHING. Don't let it go you will regret it for the rest of your life.

Well, if you had brought it down or answered my calls, I would have bought it. You never got back with me so we ended up buying a 91 Camaro instead.

They are just reacting. Keep trying to "sell" it. Let them cool off and quit driving like a idiot. Have you let your dad try the car out. The 305 in a big anchor, you can get a ticket in any car, but 3 and 8 over. Thats BS. By the way I have 3 kids 24,21 and 12.
