VIN Code Confusion
I am in the process of rebuilding my engine, due to the fact my timing chain went and it took several rods with it. But, my VIN code on my dash has "H" for the engine code. I noticed at the back of the engine on the top left side (right above the fly wheel), It has 5.0L G. Yes, I know what the 5.0L is, but the G? Is that just declaring it GM/Chevy or is it telling me my engine is the L69, but the car got stamped with an H?
And at the front of the engine, the production numbers match the car perfectly except for the numbers following the engine code. I don't know if it makes any difference but the car is stamped with "5GL2xxxxx" and the engine is stamped with "2GL2xxxxx".
Can anyone help me figure this out?

Re: VIN Code Confusion
The numbers cast into the block have nothing at all to do with the VIN. Having a G there is just a coincidence, it could just as easily have been some other letter.
