Re: 1LE

According to the "Camaro Whitebook" 4 RPO-1LE's were produced and verbally an additonal 4 were exported to Canada for a total of 8 in 1988. here's a couple links as to TGO's take on this
https://www.thirdgen.org/1988-chevy-camaro
https://www.thirdgen.org/IROC-Z-1LE-performance-package

Also here's another link on the '88 RPO-1LE
http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar....php?year=1988

I hope this helps but I've wondered if there were any Firebird 1LE's produced , or rumored, in '88.

Re: 1LE

1LE is RPO code and NOT a car model as most people think it is.

Re: 1LE

Depends on who you ask. I know there were at least six built. Four Camaro's and two TA's. I have 5 of the 6 Vin numbers and I know the 6th car (a TA) has been verified. There are a few out there that state a third TA was built.

No one I have spoken too has ever been able to verify RPO 1LE was shipped to Canada, however the players challenge cars built in 1988 had all the 1LE parts (and more) under RPO code A4U.

R7U and 1LE (Canadian Players cars) started in 1989.

I'm not up on the Camaro side, but there were 3 Firebirds (all Trans Ams) built with the 1LE option in 1988. I've seen one in person (it was sold new in Arkansas) and I had the chance to buy it, but couldn't.

You had the chance in 1988 to buy it?

Did you know about it being a rare limited edition deal? Or was it simply a non A/C car for sale that you thought about buying?

Are you nuts "a rare limited edition". At that time, it was NO big deal just a low option car. Also the demand was not there. And even road racer did not want it because of the power to weight ratio. It is a RPO option and NOT a car model. So you should of bought one when it was new, Oh I forgot in all likelyhood you were not even born yet.

Re: 1LE

No, I had the chance to buy it in the spring of 2000, I believe. I knew exactly what it was because I had a friend of mine from Texas with me who owns a '91 Camaro 1LE. I couldn't do a deal on it because I had just found out that our daughter was on the way. That's why the "2000" date sticks with me

It was being stored for the owner by a local GM/F-car parts place when we saw the car.... IIRC, the mileage was around 20K at that time.

I'll see if my buddy in Dallas still has a photo of it.... I've looked and can't find any of the ones I took at the time we saw it. We both took several shots of the car.

Re: 1LE

DJP87Z28 it's amazing the number of people that don't do enough research on a vehicle before they go looking to buy. 1LE and B4C are thrown around so much that a lot of people "think" of them as separate models in the respective F-Body lines.

A similar assumption is made on the Z28 ,and '85-'87 IROC, that being a separate model but in reality they are RPO's for the Sport Coupe. With model year '88 up they were still RPO's but the marketing had changed by then. This may also be the basis for the 1LE and B4C being perceived as separate models today instead of RPO's.

Hope my added .02 is ok
