Anyone think this is true?

I came across this on ebay. Says 1 of 25 built this way. Can that be correct? Here's the link - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Very-...QQcmdZViewItem

Re: Anyone think this is true?

It is a uncommon car, but we have several members with IROC-Z's with similar setups... Looks almost exactly like Scott's car...

The combination of T-tops, BOSE, L98, Leather etc all add up... But I think it may be a bogus comment.

Re: Anyone think this is true?

I contacted the seller a week ago and asked what documentation he has that it's 1 of 25. He said based on the RPO codes and a written statement from the previous owner stated 1 of 25. I decided to let it go as an uninformed seller at that point. I also didn't tell him that his option list is probably identical to mine. There is no "real" documentation that this is 1 of 25.

Re: Anyone think this is true?

When I read it, I thought there's no chance thats its 1 of 25. Maybe a b4c or 1le but these were'nt available in 87. To me, its just a garden variety 5.7 iroc with alot of options.

Re: Anyone think this is true?

Maybe he is basing the 1 of 25, on a combination f RPO codes? You know...Bose.....L98.....3.27.....Red.....Things like that. Like...Only 25 red, locking cover, L98, Bose systems sold in 87...Not a big deal.

He needs to explain what the 1 of 25 is based ON. Not just "becase the previous owner said so".

In a way, it's possible only 25 had THAT COMBINATION of parts in 87. But that wouldn't make the car "special", unless the RPO for the 25 cars was something like the B4C/1LE codes etc.

His response to me....
"This car was orded from the factory with all the options you see in ad, you could not get anything else. The original owner states it in the bill of sale to second buy, plus all the codes cover evething as well. Only 25 cars were built with everything that this car has. 1987 was the first year of the 350 engine in the IROC'S Hope this help let me know if you need any more info. Thanks!"

Re: Anyone think this is true?

Honestly If you take virtually ANY third gen and you start adding up options and then quantify colors, interior options etc MOST of them are less than 1 of 1000 or so... Since there are so many possible combinations, the chances are that very few cars are "Identical" to one or another...

I have never seen exact clones of any of the third gens that I have owned... Close, but none are exactly equipped with the exact options...

So...

Re: Anyone think this is true?

This car appears to be a twin of mine, right down to the color. His car has option package 1SC, grey leather, Bose, split rear seats, L98, Ttop, deluxe compartment trim, power antenna and 74U Dark Red Metallic. This car is identical to mine!

Hey Scott you must have a 1 of 25 car... Should I add it to the list?

Re: Anyone think this is true?

It's practicaly the same as my car also. L98, leather, t-tops, color 74u, bose, pretty much everything but mines an 89, not an 87. My interior color is med. beechwood, not gray as this car is. I've seen one car the exact same as mine but it had full leather(mines half leather half cloth), power antenna, and possibly the g92 pkg, options mine didnt get, but the rest was the same. I can see that not many thirdgens are exactly identical.

Re: Anyone think this is true?

Not really one of the remaining 24 (?) if the seats are different, the year is different and the interior color is different, power antenna and G92 is different. Based on all these variances, all 3rd gens are the same except for maybe the exterior color, interior color, performance options, model year, etc.

Being optioned the same is just that, the same. Any difference in any way makes it not the same.
