Something's not right about this Camaro

Claims it's an 87, but it's the pace car (so it says), with the 82-84 nose, but a 3rd brake light on the hatch (not mandated until 1985) and newer Z-28 tails. And it's only $1700. What gives?

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
sent the seller a e-mail asking for some clarification
You are correct in the discrepancies
Tail lights are 90-92
Rear spoiler is '88 I think
Yet the nose is correct to the pace car edition

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
It looks to be an '82 Z28 pace car with the wrong tail lights and spoiler. They could come with carbureted or Crossfire engines.
Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
Also just a clarification that the 3rd brake light became mandatory in 86. It was mounted on the outside rear glass in 86 and in the spoiler (if equipped) from 87-90.
Those taillights just don't look right on that car!

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
Ah you're right about the 3rd brake light, I got my years mixed up, shoulda known better. I didn't know about the carb availability in the pace car though, haven't done all that much research on them. Just knew somethin wasn't right.
Also, slightly off topic, but where was the 3rd brake light located on cars without the optional spoilers?

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
More than likely he backed into something and damaged the hatch, tailights and possibly rear bumper. The parts were replaced with an 87-90 IROC and the rest is history...
Everything else looks to be right
For $1700 its really reasonable for a pace car. Maybe even a great price...
Agreed that the lights do not look right.

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
Correct, the 1987's used the Hi-mount glass mounted brake light like the 1986's
This little tidbit goes unchecked In 1987 as there was only a handful that did not get the spoiler... My guess would be under 10,000. And in 1988 only 1 that did not have the spoiler.
Note White Book in 1987 lists only options that were individually ordered, and does not include cars that included the SC's and LT's which ordered the Level 3 option package. The Z28 would have gotten the D80 Spoiler Standard.

the grid taillights were also found in all IROC's from 85 on, and most Z28's, my 86 Z28 has them

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
Either A) he has no title or B) he has a title and the car could be stolen with the wrong VIN
Why else would he think it's an 87?

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
Is the spoiler with the third brakelight the same from 87-90? I know the 91 spoiler is a bit smaller.

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
I know, I was quoting you in reply to ajmclean's comment.
two-if-by-sea, my '91 RS has the small spoiler, it's the same as the spoiler on the earlier third gen camaro's, like my '85 z28. On my '91 with the smaller spoiler, the third brake light is on the inside of the glass, at the top, same as the '87-'90's without a spoiler.
But I don't think that really answers your question...

Re: Something's not right about this Camaro
The rear spoiler with the 3rd brake light is slightly bigger than the 82-86 and 91/92. So the answer is yes, the 87-90 spoiler is the same.

Not bad for a pace car "clone", I guess. . . the pinstipe is off, no thin red line, and the grill is supposed to black ain't it? they sprayed it blue straight across.
