Just restored my original radio harness and got my stock radio working.

Wow I didnt realize how crappy these old stock radios sound. I hooked it right up and was good to go.

I want to keep the stock look but I have got to do something about sound in my car. I know my options are limited becasue its a Vert but Ive go to do something.

The distributor that I got the original harness pieces from told me he has seen somefolks restore these old cars and leave the stock radio in and put an aftermarket somewhere else in the vehicle has anyone seen this before?

A lot of the classic car crowd do it with radios in the glove box. The reason they do it is because the factory provided them with a single dash speaker and an AM radio. When going to shows, they want the original look, but want FM, XM and CD players for the higher quality sound. Do a search online for hidden stereo or something like that.

another option for you would be to only use the stock stereo as an input to an external amp that powers your 4 speakers. You just need to find an amp that accepts "speaker level inputs". Then get some aftermarket speakers (you don't see them anyway) and it should sound much better without the difficulty of finding a place to hide a second radio but still have it accessible.

Do what I've been doing since late 90s when minidisc was new. Leave the stock radio in place, maybe just give it current to light the clock. Then install an amp or two and use one of today's many mp3 players connected directly to the amp. My Blazer has two amps, a crossover, 1/2 farad cap, 4 speakers and a sub and I hook my mp3 phone to the crossover. All you see is a tiny cable by the seatbelt buckle. I'm glad I never cut my dash and still able to have the stock two-**** radio in it.

Alot of these new remote control ones allow you to put them pretty much anywhere, use the glovebox in the back, and go from there with your remote..

For our old Torino, they actually make a radio that looks like the same one they had in 1976, but it accepts an MP3 and give out like 800 watts, add another amp for the speakers, and another for the 2 subs..
