Nobody knows? OK who has the earliest 1985 IROC here, I think mine was made the second week of march 1985, 03B.

Re: 1st IROC made?
1984 was a long model year. My '84 T/A was built the 5th week of 8/84 and I've heard that production went to the first week of October. I think you would see the first 1985 model year cars with a 10/84 build month.

Re: 1st IROC made?
date with a (10B) second week October on the trim tag. This was a Norwood car. Van Nuys will be a little different.
The first IROC ever built supposedly came out of the Norwood plant. I have seen this car at the '87 USCC Grand Nats held at Norwood in June 1987.
It was a Black L69 t-top car with silver decals. Did I get a VIN... no. Stupid me!!!!

Re: 1st IROC made?
Don't have an IROC, but there might be one made in Sept. I show a ship date of 10/9/84 on my allied vaughn invoice from norwood and VIN ending #1378. I realize that what's on paper might not always be accurate but it may lend the possibility of a 9/84 made IROC or earlier

The tag we are all going off of is under the air cleaner plastic on the brace that goes across the top. My sequence is 114346, what does this mean?

Re: 1st IROC made?
The Fisher Body tag is on the radiator support in front of the black plastic upper radiator shroud. They phased out the tag sometime during the 1985 model year so later cars won't have it.

Re: 1st IROC made?
Hey, my car is one of the 21,177 IROC's manufactured in 85 (and Met. Silver to boot), so I'm happy enough regardless--I mean of that number, how many can be left?

Re: 1st IROC made?
You sure it wasn't late in the '84 model year? My car is pretty much the way it left the factory as far as the body goes. I still have the original stickers on the radiator support. No indication that anything ever was in the area where the body tag should be. I don't think it rotted neither do I think there has been any body work on it. Was built in July of '84.

Re: 1st IROC made?
There are two tire pressure and certification decals in the driver's door jam and one of them has the vehicle build month and year on it. The last six digits in the VIN number will also give an idea of when the car was made. I'm not sure why they phased out the Fisher Body tag.

Given the quality control back then it wouldn't surprise me if they either forgot to attach one or the rivets were poorly done and it fell off.

Re: 1st IROC made?
It was 1985. My '84 T/A was built a month after yours and it has the Fisher Body tag. Production on the car started 8/29/84 to be exact.

Re: 1st IROC made?
my 1985 base bird is VIN 626698 out of Van Nuys and it still got the Fisher body tag on the cowl plate, so I agree with Dens71TA that it was discontinued mid-year 85

Re: 1st IROC made?
11th VIN digit will tell which plant. N for Norwood, L for Van Nuys. Somebody else can explain the sequence number creation better than I

Re: 1st IROC made?
The short explanation is the higher the last six digits are the later your car was built in the model year. But each factory had their own respective numbers so yours would be the X car built at Van Nuys, not total production. If you do post the numbers DON'T post the whole VIN with it. People (depending on opinion) might get on your case for that. Thats the short version. I tried my long version elsewhere but it wasn't completely accurate. Some of the others will know.
The Tag in the picture on the second Post on this thread is another way to know that if you have it. Mine is gone so I am going to have to go by either the build sheet if I can find it, or the VIN and roughly date it.

Re: 1st IROC made?
Yep my 11th digit is an N, so mine is Norwood. You guys have to be on to something with the production date thing. I mean what else could it be?
