Surface scratches on side windows and rear hatch

I have an 87 IROC I just recently acquired. I want to get the windows tinted but have been holding off till I decide how I'm going to remedy the situation I have on hand. I have light surface scratches on the inside side door windows and the outside rear hatch glass. I've had this problem on my 87 Corvette and had to replace the side windows due to the outer window strips becoming brittle with age which caused the scratches. The only difference though is that those scratches were deeper on the Corvette. Now on the IROC.. They are not deep. What would be the best way to resolve this. Can I buff out those scratches? If so then what do I use and what do I need?

Search for glass polish made by the company Eastwood, I think thats there name. I haven't used glass polish but was always going to try it.

Re: Surface scratches on side windows and rear hatch

Thanks for the replies. I checked on the eastwood site and there seems to be a lot of negative feedback about some of these products. I'm a little worried about having to order something that may not be satisfactory. Any other suggestions?

The glass shop I go to, whom I trust due to the work they've done on more than one windshield of mine, told me some advice on their glass polishing option. They said that basically, if your fingernail catches on a glass scratch they will not be able to completely buff it out. Glass like that will just need to be replaced - maybe with a JY piece.

Yes you are correct. I had to do that on my 87vette. I don't believe I need to do that with this IROC though. What do glass normally cost for a camaro from a parts yard?

A quick search of http://car-part.com/ sez... about $50 for side glass, $100 for heated rear glass, here in sunny Michigan

I thought it'd looked too good to be true. $100 or more for side glass for my 87. That's how much it cost me for my 87 Corvette when I replaced both side glass. $100 each. I figured it'd be cheaper for the Camaro since the Corvette is known for the " Corvette tax".

One of the things I like about the 3gen Fbodys is the availability and low cost of parts. There were absolutely just SCADS of these cars made, and for now at least, there are a lot of parts out there... not to mention entire parts cars available for a relative pittance. It's a big help for fans who want to keep their 3gen lookin' good
