How rare is my car?

Ok so I'm pretty new to the third gen world. I just bought my first camaro, a 1984 z-28. I just wanted to know how rare it is. Here are the options:z28, t-tops, L69 5.0 ho, 5 spd, rear disc, 3.73 posi, power everything (locks, seats, windows, etc...), clock in the console, ac, rear defrost . It also came from the factory with two '85 options: electric fuel pump and electric fan. Just wondering if my car is a dime a dozen or if its on the rarer side for a 3rd gen. I appreciate any info, thanks.

Very rare seeing that rear disc brakes were not available in 84, you may want to check the originality of that rear end. I have basically the same car as you. Only diff is I have drums with an open 3.23. They are pretty rare especially if you have all the h.o. parts like the plastic dual intake scoops. If you have the custom camaro camaro camaro interior you are doing even better. Thats why these third gens are my favorite. If you have that intereior and need replacement cloth I just got some from N.O.S Automotive in Michigan. Theyre number is 586-727-2486. They were great to deal with and fast shipping.

You could get rear disc brakes in 84. At least on the Firebird as an option. If the Trans Am with WS6 came standard with disc rears after the shortage was over with, I would have to say that you could get disc brakes with the Z28 and other Camaros as an option. My Trans Am is set up exactly like his with the L69, T5, 3.73 posi rear and disc brakes, all power except for mirrors. I went to the PHS to document the car. The only thing not original at the moment is the engine because the original one blew up. But I still have the original block.

****EDIT: I just confirmed that you could get the car with rear discs in 1983 so no doubt you could get them in 84. He doesn't have to worry about the originality of the rear end. Source was an original 83 test.

The Electric Fan was standard with the L69. My car has the same except for the fact it only has power locks, windows and hatch release. Read the READ ME BEFORE ASKING IF IT IS RARE OR NOT sticky thread at the top of the board, and you will see power train breakdowns for the rare/desireable cars. Mine is on there and I think yours is right near the bottom. Electric fuel pump depending on the location might have been your fix for the vapor lock problems that the L69 had.

The Camaro White Book has 17,494 1984s with the J65 rear disks and 52,457 with the L69 engines.

Re: How rare is my car?

So to answer your question......No it is not rare. It will proably never grace the stage at Barrett Jackson. Do not cover it, stick it in a shed and expect to live off the profits when you retire. Take the money you would spend to fix it up and stick it in the stock market while it is down and you will live a profitable life. Sorry for the reality check, been a tough day.LOL

Say what? Rear discs were readily available in '84. I own a '84 Trans Am WS6 with J65 rear disc. The first year for factory rear discs on a F-body was '79.

Re: How rare is my car?

the only thing that stands out to me is the electric fuel pump. Everything else just says it was a well optioned car, and probably contributed to why someone took good enough care if it for it to still be around today.

Those aren't '85 options. Beginning mid year in '84 the electric fuel pump was factory installed on all L69 engine cars due to the vapor lock issues with that engine option. There was a dealer installed kit available to retrofit '83 and early '84 L69 cars with the electric fuel pump if the owner experienced vapor lock problems.

The electric cooling fan was part of the L69 engine option since it was released in March of '83. It was the first third-gen to come with an electric cooling fan.
