found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

Im not real familiar with the worth of a notchback but if solid is this a deal? If I were to buy it, I would more than likely store it... would it be worth the investment cause the low production

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

mileage is a major factor for me. I didnt see it listed, but that would be the deal maker/breaker

on a side note from my little soapbox here, if you are selling a car, list the mileage, When i see adds with no price or mileage, i dont even bother looking at it

It's a notchback that needs paint....I would say that 2500 is a steal considering what most notchbacks go for

That's what I paid for mine.... and it had some body damage on it. But as others have stated, I did know the mileage of it beforehand.

Probably about as good a deal as you'll find on one of these cars nowadays. I've turned down almost that $$$ for my extra decklid.

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

It looks to be a pretty good deal for the money but I would definitely give it a very good look. That seller flips a lot of thirdgens and most of the cars he sells look to be junk. I'm sure he picked it up for much less than $2500 which means it may need a lot of work. I've talked to him a handful of times and I would definitely be a little leary of buying anything from him.

Overall, notchbacks don't really sell for much more than normal GTAs do so I wouldn't really worry about buying it based on that. At some point I think they could be worth quite a bit more than a normal GTA but not anytime soon.

As Notchback owner I very much agree with you, Denny. Having watched them over the years, I have not seen them bring much more (if any) than a similarly equipped non-Notchback GTA.

In regard to the digital dash, when he says it's broke and sometimes works, is he speaking about the common issue that the digital dashes has with the mileage reading being garbled? If so, in that case, the mileage is still tracked, recorded and updated as it's just a display issue.

I also will confirm that I've seen that same Notchback listed for several months on Craigslist.

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

He said 2k and thats the lowest but Im going to have to pass if its not as appreciable as I first thought. I bought a parts car from him @2 years ago that had "nothing more then a bad motor". The body was duct taped then bondoed over the tape(which I didnt care) but when I went to rebuild the 700r4 it was destroyed... broken springs, cracked basket,,, completely demolished. All that being said my fiance put her foot down (I think on my throat) until a new house no more toys . As I like to say... you can live in a car, but you cant drive a house.

that's pretty rare if it's an original notchback. Only 624 of these cars were made.

624 is the figure for the Notchbacks that supposedly remained (rest exported).

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

So, if I were to take the notch back off of my car theoretically, how much could I get for it? I am switching my notch out for a regular hatch and a new fiberglass wrap around. I am going to save the notchback with the car, but I was just wondering how much a genuine original notchback hatch would go for.

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

Original notchback hatches sell for around $1000 to $1500. However, if you're planning on keeping your car you would be crazy to get rid of it because without it your car is nothing more than a normal GTA. Not that notchbacks really sell for more than normal GTA's but at some point they probably will and if your car doesn't have the original hatch it will definitely make the car worth less.

The price range Denny gives is about what I've seen as well. Wish I was Frankie to have gotten the offer he did since I've got a spare original myself.

A year or two ago there was a NOS Notchback lid for sale. No hardware came with it. It sold for less than 1K.

Indeed. 624 was the production number for the United States, and 94 were built and sold in Canada. Apparently none were originally exported overseas, although there are some cars over there now.

Re: found an 88 gta notchback, would you buy it?

For some reason, the fellow who tried to buy mine really wanted it. He pestered me about for weeks. I could have made a nice profit, since I only gave $150 for my decklid.... which for some reason was mounted on an '84 T/A. But it came with all the hardware and the back glass intact.

Had I sold it, I no doubt would have been rear-ended the next time I took the car out for a drive.

I am def keeping the notch hatch with the car because I realize that it is so rare and is a collectors item. I just like the look of the regular hatch and wrap around better.
