Restore or modify?

My dad has an 1986 Z28. 305 TPI. The old man wants to restore it back to stock. But i keep trying to tell him to modify it to make it into a super sports car so he can have way more fun when drving it. What would be better for the value of the car. Having it modify or keeping it all stock? All opinions will be appreciated.

Re: Restore or modify?

well to me it depends on the starting condition of the car. If the motor is blown and the transmission is gone then i say you should mod it. But if its a low mileage survivor then you should definitely restore it. But in the end it comes down to what you want to do and what you want to use the car for, Drag, cruise, or as a car you only take out on those special occasions. In my personal opinion i would restore it with maybe some tasteful mods. Maybe some headers, and exhaust, some new seats. But leave it totally stock looking except maybe for some wheels

Re: Restore or modify?

well the chassis and engine had about 180k+. Basically most/all if the bushings are shot. I was telling him about all the aftermarket suspension parts and way better engines out there. Technology for the aftermarket world has advance since 1986. I mean drving a stock z28 and curve gripping monster, are two different animals. But for the third gens, will it have more value with aftermarket suspension and with a ls1 or keeping everything stock?

Re: Restore or modify?

Eventually wearable parts will have to be replaced with aftermarket products..ie suspension, exhaust, etc. I would and keep all the big pieces stock, rims, engine, interior, etc.

Re: Restore or modify?

For me it was nostalgia...my dad bought the car from the original owner in '94 when I was 17 and couldn't drive it...then gave it to me in 03' after he had back surgeory and I returned from Afghanistan.
