The ad says it's a 25th anniversary. That can't be right. In 83 the TA hadn't been around for that long. Also the VIN has a S for the engine code. S is the code for the LB8, aka the MPFI V6, which didn't exist yet in 83. The ad lists it as a V8. Either the VIN is a typo or the car is a fraud.

The full name of the car is 1983 TransAm 25th Anniversary Daytona 500 Pace car replica. The car paced the 25th DT500, thats why its called a 25th. Not to be confused with the 1994 25th T/A.

Id say the Vin # is a typo.

In the Jan 05' issue of HPP there is a great article about a DT500 car with less than 5,000 miles on it.

That car is only about a little over an hour away from me. I should go look at it A member of another message board has mentioned seeing the car a couple of times. He says its been there for a long time.

It would be, but the 25th isnt the anniversary of the TA, its the anniversary of the Daytona 500. Could be real, I guess.

Well, by ***. I still dont know about the authenticity of it. There are a lot of jokers out there, especially nowadays, when everyone thinks everything is worth its weight in gold.

definatly have to agree with that...LOL

i get a kick out of some of these guys that say their car is worth so much because it used to have this on it or it used to have that on it when someone removed it or they did ...LOL

and the authenticity of that car is honestly unknown with out seeing it in person and haveing the proper documentation to check it with ...

Maybe "S" in 83 was for the LU5. Anyone know? I do know a few years later S was for the LB8, but I suppose GM could have used it earlier for the LU5.

Well Dan!
I think you should get it, and store it out here, away from all the snow and salt on the road out by you!
Then, Alex can come out and see it!
I wonder if it has the floor mats, and the decal package in the box still!
Very nice looking car!
BTW Dan, you owe me 10 bucks! I signed you up for SEMA the other day!
Getting close! Better send me the details of your trip!

Later guys,

George

The car has been for sale a looooong time and it is in mint condition. And it does have the floor mats and sticker package. Have more pictures somewhere on one of these computers.

PS. 5th The existence of the Hardtop 25th Daytona was finally verified.

Nice Ride !

My 1-05 HPP was late, I finaly get to see what the buzz is about.

The article questions the worth of this model. His last line in the write up notes he is looking for an "elusive" 82 Recaro T/A.

Could be a teaser for an up comming feature. Id like to see more 3rd gens Firebirds in HPP, they are out there !

If I get bored this weekend I might have to take a ride and go see it.

Don, I already sent a "thank you" letter to HPP and the author of the 83 DT500 article.

I saw that car at the T/A nats a couple of years ago, it was just as impressive in person.

Man, if I was a rich guy I'd be on that machine. Then I'd go to Vegas and grab that 1LE in the car show. Amazing what's out there sometimes. Saw an 82 Pace car on Ebay when it was just getting started, still had dealer plastic on the carpet. Went for about 15 grand as I remember.
