1987 iroc-z convertible 305 tpi 5 speed with g92..
just bought an 87 iroc convertible 5 speed with g92 option.. car has 56k original miles..
i know there was 744 iroc convertibles made and from what i read only 120 or so 5 speeds but, also read that the car with g92 was even more rare?
any more info would be great!! thanks!!

What you'll probably run into is the option combination issue. GM didn't keep track of combinations of options. You can find out how many 87 Irocz convertibles were built, maybe how many had the 305TPI, but when you start to get into 5spds, the numbers aren't going to be broken down... You'll only be able to find the total number of 5spds. Same with G92...

Total production for the Camaro in 87 was 137,760. 115,109 were auto's and 22,651 were 5-speeds. No way to know how many where in V6, V8, coupes or convertibles. You can only get the total number of 5-speeds for all camaros in 87. 10,533 cars had the G92 axle.
This is a good link for data.

Also, very nice vert. Where did you find it hiding? Based on your background I guessing you are in Flordia or Southern Cal.

1987 is a unique year, Chevrolet only offered the ASC converted Camaro convertible with either the LG4/Automatic or the LB9/Manual. I highly suspect it had to do with fuel economy, and they did not want to test a V6 as there is cost involved. So they took the two options and ran with it. I also want to believe that all of the LB9/M5 convertibles had the G92 option...
More or less, if you ever figure out how many LB9 Convertibles in 1987 then you would probably have your answer.
Keep in mind that ASC was doing Chevrolet dealer conversions to camaros as early as 1985, and Pontiac conversions as early as 1986, so you might find a LB9/A4 car, or an ever illusive L98 Convertible, that looks exactly like yours, but they are an "aftermarket" conversion... considering they were made by the same people that made the "official" convertible...

Hey there OONIGHTTRAIN. I know this is a very old thread but on the off chance that you see this and you still have that car. I just bought pretty much the exact same car. But mine is thrashed and needs a total restoration. I plan to take it back to 100% original. Any chance I might be able to contact you and lean on you for any tidbits of advice or originality help? Thanks!

I thought G92 was only available on automatic cars? That's the way it is on Corvettes and 4th gen's at least...

Nope, I have now seen quite a few 305 with 5 speed that came with G92 and J65 disc brakes. I'm more of a 1st gen expert. I am just getting into 3rd gen Camaros so I am by no means and expert in 3rd gen. But I read somewhere (on this forum I think) that many or most 1987 IROCs with 305 and 5 speed were also G92. I have no clue about Vettes and 4th gens. Maybe someday I'll tackle 4th gens too. Although I did own brand new a 2002 35th Ann LE with T-tops and all the SLP options. Stupidly sold it.

G92 was the performance gear option on Camaros (for the most part) Firebirds from 1988+ it somehow triggered the 1LE.

Interesting. Yeah, I'm holding on to my 02...hoping to park it soon and start daily driving something else to keep the miles down.
