Rare Taillights?
Over this past summer I was at David T's F-body in Edmonton (pretty much the only place in Canada that does used F-body parts) and saw a '92 bird with a set of lights just like the ones below. I have been looking around to find info on them and all I can come up with is that they are GTA? taillights. According to David they are a $1500 set of rare lights... can anyone shed some light on this? Are they really this rare/expensive or is it just this guy?

Re: Rare Taillights?
haha I should have guessed, I ended up paying $475/side for rocker panel ground effects from this same guy because I couldn't get them anywhere else. I might have to take you up on that come spring time. Do you know what shipping would cost up to Alberta?

Re: Rare Taillights?
"Rare" in that they were only made for 2 years so they are LESS COMMON.
Even if his were OEM, never out of the factory box, in a humidity controlled warehouse from day 1 & still on PERFECT shape....He's WAY, WAY, WAY overpriced!

Re: Rare Taillights?
They're rare in the sense that if you're looking for a pair, you're only going to see a couple sets for sale each year. Usually they're going to go for twice as much as any other thirdgen tail lights. On Ebay they're bringing more then $350 a pair in well used condition. I've got a pair for sale, they're less then perfect and I'm not letting them go cheap. They're discontinued and will only become harder to find and the value will keep going up.

I've been to DavidT's a couple times. His prices are NUTS!!! I think he believes he has the entire Canadian F-body market in his back pocket. But thanks to the internet, there are now way more options out there.

Re: Rare Taillights?
I can see that they might be more expensive than other taillights but i don't see how he can say they're some sort of special option that costs $1500. I'm thinking maybe he was mistaken because I ased him kind of on my way out, so I sent off an email today and we'll see how it goes

MINT condition sets can be had for $500-$550 but only turn up a couple times a year as mentioned.
I bought a second brand new condition set to replace mine that are showing their age. I'll be selling mine for only like $200.

Re: Rare Taillights?
Not really rare to find. I would say more rare to find a NICE set though. keep lookin you will find driver quality sets on here and fleabay from time to time. If you can find a nice seat for in the $200 range I would pick them up. I should contact the guy and sell him all the sets I have for 1/2 that price per set

Re: Rare Taillights?
So I just recieved an email back from DavidT's, thought I would post it up so anyone who deals with them has more motivation for finding a new vendor (I know its worked for me!)
They are 1991/92 only and the pair is $1200.00 or wholesale price $840.00. Shipping cost is extra.
Thank you

BTW, here is what they look like mint condition and what happens after years and years. This is my GTA 10 years ago and now, hard to tell in the 2nd pic but they have started to de-laminate from their outer clear cover...
and yeah that is my '84 15th and my '93 300ZX

That's a pretty decent price...if he was refering to Hong Kong dollars. That price is beyond nuts. I would never go back to that guy for even having the stupidity of trying to sell them at that price. What a moron.

Re: Rare Taillights?
Ok, wait, is that price he is quoting for a BRAND NEW NOS set still in the original GM boxes?! and he will sell for wholesale if I have a sellers permit?!
I think I would pay $840 for an NOS set! IF they are true NOS...

Another tale of ole' slippery Dave
He over-prices all of his stuff. Not surprising in the least. I bought my camaro from him. I dont think he knew what he had... got a super deal on the car. He is extremely knowledgeable and great for info. Deals....not so much

Re: Rare Taillights?
I hate DAVID T so so much. I went there looking for a GTA wheel - $450 for a bent rear one, I was like youre kiddin right. Then I went there looking for the rear trim piece above the back seats - $155 with the holes pulled out. I wish he'd pack up and go or something cause he's preventing all of the GTAs and IROCs from ending up in pick your parts across alberta, and im sick of it. He's a greedy guy with over a thousand third gens in his back yard!
Re: Rare Taillights?
Stangski, check my thread in the Body forum and leave any items you happen to be interested in. I cant promise I can get any particular part at any given time but I can promise to deal in fair prices
In a decade or so we'll all be bending over the barrel for guys like that but in the mean time I watch tons of good parts go to the crusher.

Oh i'm good now for parts, thanks though! I'm just listing my previous experiences with this guy.
I don't think i'll be bending over back for a dude that charges like that. That's highly unfair, he's no thirdgenner. Thirdgenners help eachother out, they don't need a HUGE profit like David T does.

Re: Rare Taillights?
'Been keeping an eyeball out for a set these t-lights too.
Junk yards have them, but always in not so pristene condition.
But I'm like Alex, they got to be NOS near mint condition.

Re: Rare Taillights?
I think as time goes on, eventually every set on a car that's seen daylight will have the same problem. Someone will have to make reproductions or find a way to fix the delamination problem... It's not just the 91-92 T/A lights, it's all of the 'tinted' Pontiac lights from the 80's and 90's. The Grand Prixs and Sunbirds have the exact same problem, just no one cares because those cars are throw aways.

Re: Rare Taillights?
yes, they're rare. but I got a set of 92's with the gta wiring harness for 75$ it all really depends on who you know. In the chicago area these cars are so rotten people practically give them away.
Re: Rare Taillights?
$1500!!! Does anybody really buy anything from that place? I don't see how they can stay in business with their prices. We've got a really nice set on our site for $375 so I guess that's a steal.

...the delamination problem... It's not just the 91-92 T/A lights, it's all of the 'tinted' Pontiac lights from the 80's and 90's.
The early style tinted Trans Am/ S/E and non-tinted Firebird tail lights do not have this issue, but they can suffer from UV damage.
Re: Rare Taillights?
I've yet to see the 86-92 base Firebird lights delam, but then I don't consider them tinted either. I was referring almost exclusively to all the Pontiac grid style lights, not the earlier tinted tails.

Cars described WITH rust and needing paint for 5000+, and high mileage LS1s in the $20,000 range! Wow, your right how does this guy stay in business?

Re: Rare Taillights?
The only reason this guy stays in business is because his place is an F-body monopoly. I seriously called 20+ wreckers this summer looking for parts when I was painting my car and even a place in Manitoba (2 provinces over) said he sends all his stuff to David T. 75% of places I called said that within a week of having a firebird or camaro in their yard it will be gone to edmonton.

Re: Rare Taillights?
david t is one of the biggest rip offs ever , i went to him and i was going to try and turn my 83 camaro into an iroc clone , he told me that it would cost me $650 for a passenger door and $900 for a drivers side door , $700 for the hood with louvers and $1500 for the front bumper , i laughed at him and told him to **** himself , never go to that guy , my dad gave him a camaro for free , the same day he gave it to him , my dad needed the arm rest off the passenger door and david t charged my dad $160 , i ****ing hate that ***** with a passion , everyone on this site should actually spread the word not to buy through him
Re: Rare Taillights?
I think the topic has been covered as to the rarity aspect of the 1991-1992 T/A and GTA taillights and has turned into a topic that probably better fits in the appropriate forums (Aftermarket Vendor Review or Classifieds Feedback forum). People and their pricing is really subject to opinion and not really a part of this section.
John or Scott, if you disagree, let me know!
Thanks.
