As I have said in 10+ years of doing 1982-1984 birds,All of the 1982 Recaros I have come across had a May built date.Granted this is for Van Nuys built recaros. And I think Norwood Recaro's are even MORE scare !!!!

Mine is an '83 Recaro. Dumb luck got me this rust free project. I bought it sight unseen from North Carolina on EBay. I didn't even know what Recaro edition meant when I bid on it. I knew it was a black and tan TA with crossfire injection and no rust. I had an '82 black and tan non - Recaro when I was 19 that got totaled and when I was in my later 30's I thought it was time to replace her.
Carfax said it was purchased in Wisconsin in 1983. Had about 17,000 miles when it transferred title to North Carolina in 1996. I bought it in 2006 with 125,000.
Was in rough shape when I got it, but have put about $10,000 into it and various other parts to restore.
Still has the original paint on the hood, front fenders, driver door and hatch. Have the original bumpers, but found perfect replacements and had them painted when the driver quarter was bumped out and painted.
The passenger seat is presentable, driver side is toast. Have the original gold turbo fin wheels, but think these look really nice.
Needs a new fuel pump, but other than a collapsed lifter it runs well after all sensors and vacuum lines were replaced.
Original engine and rear end, but not the trans.
Fun project that continues without end, as they all do! lol
Sorry about the seat covers in these photos. It is indeed an AQ9 with tan Recaro seats and door handles.

Jez - luckily I was up watching my Tigers take care of the A's tonight... Go Tigers!!!
Here are some photos that kind of match what you are looking for, however I am not sure what you exactly need. Some of these are a few years old and there are some more updates.
The wrapped steering wheel has been replaced with a nicer version and the console cover with the measurements is an upgrade from the older driver side interior view.
The 145 speedo was done by someone on EBay a few years back. I wish I had the sellers name. It turned out pretty nicely. Not perfect, but would take a very keen eye to notice the subtle differences from the factory face. Recalibration was excellent.
Let me know if you would like to see something more specific and I can snap the photo and link it.

Thanks - it really is a big difference from the gold fins. I still keep the gold fins for originality if these things ever get collectable, but definitely the cross lace rims complete the look and will stay on.

Gone through some of this thread...1982 Recaro Trans Am, will have AQ9 seat AND 18e INTERIOR color on the cowl plate. I think this applies to the 1983 as well, not 100%. AQ3 required the car to be a recaro (period). if you have an AQ9 you have a Recaro. If somehow you have an AQ9 and it was not a recaro I will trade you my recaro for it...your car would be rare and a mistake. The 1982 were a limited production run, and had two specific packages...engines/transmissions. The claimed numbers were 1000, but most say 2000 were made. Some Trans Ams, were ordered with a recaro package later (1983....), they were not limited edition runs. Having said that there are less 83s than 82s. The 1982 had a specific option group WS6, some WS7 rumored, interior, gold bird on back, gold hub cap symbol, crossfire/auto non crossfire 4spd, T tops..... Bought mine in 1983 one year old, not the best engineered car, but unique.

Hi, just joined this site. I have a 1984 recaro and will be posting some pics later and will be interested in sharing info and ideas with all the other recaro owners. My handle is recaro 123, I know, not very imaginative huh?

I have an 83 (white). in very good condition, not sure what it's worth or how or who to sell it to? It sort of fell into my lap. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
.

My dad and I have one.. I have always loved it growing up and I just found this website about 2 days ago. I have not been able to leave it
I want to restore it back to how it was originally.. Can you help me out with finding the rare parts like the Recaro seats and the wood grain looking interior? By the way it has only 55,000 original miles but it definitely needs ALOT of work.
Here is a quick pic of the interior.

I always thought it would be cool to replicate the 84 15th but on a Recaro T/A with the black and gold instead of white and blue, black lines painted onto the tails, Trans am added to the doors and rear bumper, plus gold centers and polished lips on WS6 rims.

First post. I have a 1983 Recaro Trans Am fully loaded with 74,682 miles L69 5 speed. I plan on getting this car fully restored as I believe there is no other like it. I see other people posting there recaro's and although they are similar there are none like mine. I bought this car in 1995 with 65k on it for $5,000. It was the car I drove to cedar point from Pittsburgh on me and my wife's first date. We will be celebrating our 18th year anniversary on July 26.

I had interior photos as well, but for some reason I can't post them. I did notice that the automatics are totally different. Cross fire vs 4bbl, front end is finned as a standard is solid like the daytonas, and my glove box (the pouch) is tan vs black on the autos. My center hubs say "Pontiac" and do not have a bird

FYI to all '83-'84 Recaro Owners... a set of NOS "Screaming Eagle" medallions is on Ebay for a pretty cheap price right now. 9/21/15
The '84 15th Anniversary is an almost perfect negative image of the '84 Recaro T/A... for all intents and purposes, they are the same car, outside of their color schemes and RPO designations... I like to look at them as The Twins... the "Good Twin" and the "Bad Twin" .

I just picked up a decent 1984 Recaro TA in January. Locally owned from craigslist. It is in suprisingly decent shape for where it is and the age. Just a little paint chipping from the tops of the wheel openings. It has been painted standard '84 TA black with gold aero kit. I was happy to find the original pin stripes hiding on the back side of the right front fender. It is a L69 5.0HO and a 5 speed. The car originally came with an automatic but at some point in its life was converted to stick shift with a 1984 5 speed and pedals and console. It needs some fixing up but right now I am focusing on getting it running properly. I got it with edelbrock carb and intake that don't run properly. I was fortunate to get the original intake and carb with the car. I'm sending out the carb to get a professional rebuild soon. I've been able to locate some of the air pump stuff to replace what has been removed and missing. I am looking forward to driving it with the proper setup as soon as I can. I would also like to get the paint scheme back to the original black aero kit and three stripe kit. I'll post pictures soon.

Re: Calling all 1982, 1983, & 1984 Recaro Edition T/A, (aka RPO Y84 Trans Am S/E) own
i picked up a 1983 Recaro Trans Am this past spring. it was for sale locally on Craigslist. the ad didn't have much information on the car, but i knew it was a Recaro because i could see the seats through the windshield on the only picture that was posted. turns out a mechanic was selling the car for a customer. the car was kind of dirty from storage, but was all there. there was no RPO sheet on the middle console lid, but it had all the Recaro items - Recaro seats, gold wheels, gold PONTIAC lettering on the rear tail light center section, sail panel emblems (not decals) and Recaro door handle inserts.
the original owner purchased the car new in Harrisburg, PA. the second owner purchased the car for his wife sometime in the early 2000s. she lost interest and the car sat in a garage. i am now the third owner. the odometer shows 66,871 miles and i believe that to be correct based on the car's condition. only wear items are not original - tires, battery, brakes, vacuum lines. it still has the original exhaust, spare tire and inflator. the radio, power antenna and cruise control all still work. the seats are in excellent shape except for some rips on the driver seat. unfortunately it has the crossfire engine, but it runs perfect so i guess i can't complain.
i've been trying to clean up the car when i have spare time. there is surface rust in odd areas like at the edges of panels which leads me to believe the car was repainted at some point. i mainly bought it so i would have a summer car to drive while my 1984 Trans Am is getting built. not sure if i'll keep this Recaro or sell it when the '84 is done.

I'm in it for good now. I have had the carb rebuilt by a well known professional and I have put the original grind cam in along with the original intake that came with the car. I want to enjoy it for what it is. I also purchased three original sail panel bird emblems. I do plan on having the paint fixed up and the skirts repainted black and the correct three stripes added. I found one rust spot in the RR quarter panel where it meets the bumper cover. About the size of a nickel. I will get it running over winter. I have already replaced the rear brakes and calipers and parking cables. The engine was the next big project. Swapped the cam which requires removing the oil pan which required removing the drivers exhaust manifold to remove the broken studs. Snowballed from there. The oil pan and engine are super clean inside, barely showing wear for a 108k mile car! I have obtained much of the emissions pieces that have been taken off in the past. I am looking forward to getting this car cruising again!!

Just an FYI the SPID sheets in the center console did not show up until 1984 or 1985. Leaning toward 1984 tho.

This thread sure makes me miss my 82 Recaro. I bought it & sold it many years before the internet was commonplace & the wealth of information like this site has. I never knew about the hood & WS6 until reading this thread. I do recall it having 4 wheel disk & did handle pretty nice for the time. I had sold my first 78 Trans am to buy it back in 1988. Then sold it a year later to a friend so I could buy a 1987 Trans am. It had right around 50K on it at the time. Bought it from a guy who moved to Green bay from Michigan & used to work at GM when he ordered it. I have pictures of it, but not a one of the interior. All my pictures of my cars back then where always from the outside only. I never saw the point at an interior picture back then. But, I also look at vehicles like this so differently today than I did. Would love to find another one someday. I am pretty sure I still have the Michigan licensee plate from it for some reason.
