Decoding a new car

We just bought an '82 Berlinetta, and now we'd like to decode it. We have the VIN and the trim tag from the radiator. We've figured the VIN out, but need help figuring out the trim tag. Is there a list somewhere that says what the trim codes are? What about for the engine? How can we determine which engine we have? Thanks

Re: Decoding a new car

8th digit of the VIN number will tell you the engine, or at least the original engine.

See this thread for decoding the numbers on the engine... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...gine-code.html

Do a search for info on decoding the trim tag/body tag, or just post up the codes and I'm sure someone here can decode them for you.

Odd, if you've figured out the VIN, you would know what engine it has (had) . . . or . . . have you determined that the engine is not original and you're wondering what it has now?
