anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

Ok, I have no idea where this should be posted, or if anyone even cares ( sorry if this is the wrong place it seemed like the most appropriate.)
How many of you have had someone ask to buy your car? did you sell it? and doesn't it make you feel good? I get alot of compliments and stares from my car, and it just has a plain old dark blue paint job, and its due for a new one (it still looks good though.) and I have seen alot of really nice looking cars on this site, way nicer than mine. I have had quite a few people ask me if I would sell mine, and about 80% of those people have had one before, and said it was the funnest car they ever had. It really makes me respect my car even more than before. Anyone else have this happen?

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

Hello spiffiestpengui!!

Back in 1989, I had someone leave a note on my car wanting to buy it. I called up the number that afternoon, and gave the guy the lowdown on the car!! He right away started to make excuses not to buy it!!! First, it wasn't the right colour, then it was a 5 speed, and he wanted an auto, then it was not the right price....etc....etc!!!! Makes you wonder why he left the note in the first place!! It's not like it was hiding in a garage and he couldn't see it, it was 10:00 in the morning, under bright sunny skies!! At that particular time in Victoria, British Columbia Canada, the local stealership was selling full load IROC-Z's for about $32,000.00 The guy asked me what I would sell mine for, and I told him $20,000.00 It was a steal of a deal, I only had 25,000 kms (approx 15,000 miles) on the car!!

That was the one, and only time that I got a note!! Needless to say, but I didn't sell it, I didn't really want to either, but at that time, if the deal was right......you never know!!!

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I used to live in the city and had to park my '83 Trans Am on the street. My dad- the original owner of the car- stopped by my apartment one day and gave me a handwritten note he noticed under the wipers on his way to my place. It invited me to call someone named Brian if I was interested in selling the Trans Am. This was 2005, and I didn't call because I don't see ever selling my car (it's kind of a family heirloom now). Still, it was nice to see someone appreciated a then-22 year old unrestored Trans Am enough to write a note. Dad got some offers on it before he gave it to me in 2004.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I had one guy come up to me in the parking lot at a mall the day before i was moving from Vancouver island. He offered me 3 grand cash because the car had a strait body with no body work and the T roof. It was the fact that i needed a car to be on the Ferry first thing in the morning that stopped me for taking the money. It's not like i would of found a new car, had it registered and then have it loaded in time.

Of all the people that have come up to me or left notes on my car I think he was the only one who was ready to by the car. I have got lots of stories about how they realy want the car but dont have the money right now, There is one just like it down the street for less and it already has a V8 and endless negotiations that never go any where.

There are reasons i don't sell cars but am realy good at buying them

I had a guy once try to buy my '94 camaro off me. The car had an exhaust and a sound system. When I told him it was a v6 he then asked if would trade my car for this pos blazer of his. My car might not have been the nicest but it still looked good. I laughed got in the car and left.

I had someone leave me a note on my 75 nova once... I sometimes wonder if he even knew it had a racing engine under the hood. I have had people offer me money on countless occasions for my blue 69 firebird matching #s 400, I think the highest offer was 10k but I don't remember. The next time someone offers me anything above 10k I will probably sell it though.

or if I am with my older brother (me=19, him =25), it's "your dad is letting you drive his sports car eh?" then i laugh and say, nope it's mine, i paid for it and enjoy their dumbfounded looks

A few years back shortly after I had the rear swapped out in my t top iroc I had a guy ask me about my car. I was parked in a mall parking lot eating taco bell and he pulls up next to me in what looks to be an 80`s caddy.Tells me that my car is a classic and then asks me if I want to sell it.I just smiled and said sorry but its not for sale

LOL. I've been asked by my family to sell my car as they say "Not a good car, wastes too much gas, needs a paint job, etc." So I tell them naturally "My car, my problem, runs great and you didn't pay for it."

Hey, z28TPI what color is your car? I may have seen you on Firestone when i'm out in the LT.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I had a neighbor come over and ask me on the day I took mines off the trailer I brought her home on.
"nice ride dude, you wanna sell it, cash now?"
"Nah man, I only just got her a week ago, nice lil' project I been waiting a long time for."
"cool, so...ya wanna sell it?"
"Sorry kid....not happening"
And I haven't even been out on the road yet.
I don't see very many around here. But I know as soon as I do get her out...I'm going to see them everywhere.
I'm expecting attention when I'm done though.
The answer will be the same though.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

Had mine for sale. anyone who asked about it didn't want to pay what I wanted, so now I've decided to keep it and buy a winter beater so it won't see the salt any more. For some reason, no one wants to pay for a car that's had half what I was asking in parts alone put into it in the past three years; oh well, their loss is my renewed love.

I had some people walk up while I was under the car working on it.
I thought to myself if I wanted to sell it would I spend the time to fix it up. but I didn't say that I just said no that I had just got the car myself.
later I saw the guy working at a taco time and turns out his car is exactly like mine same factory color and everything I thought that was cool.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

*MY87LT You probably saw my girl in two different versions...the muiticolor trying to get my body straight days or the primered black gotta get off my butt and paint it days obviously BF (before fire). The multicolor days were black hood, blue fenders, red driver door, blue pasenger door, blue body blue spoiler, white quarter ground effects, and black chin (or chinless). I used to work for golf 'n stuff probably seen my drive to or from there.

The best is when I was at work. I started my girl to warm her up and this 10 year old kid with his father came up he was hesitant to ask me but his father said go ahead. He asked to see her motor and for me to rev it lol. Of course I showed him and let him rev for himself. The father couldn't help but ask it she was for sale. I had to say no to the kid, but he told me watch I'm gonna get one when I grow up. Probably the best story I have to date about my baby lol.

I have had a few people try and buy my car. I usually see what they are willing too offer just for the fun of it and tell them to double it.

I kinda raced this guy in a 280z and DESTROYED him. A few days later he showed up trying to buy my car. I told him I have too much blood sweat and tears in her to let her go. I told him wouldnt like my price... he still wanted to know, so I told him 10k cash tomorrow, and I would consider it. I doubt I would do it... But he did ask for my number which I didnt give him.

I had someone offer my $12,000 for my 36K mile 1989 Formula 350 Vert... I turned it down, even though I just bought it a year earlier for $8000....

Bruce Hawkins offered to buy my 87 Formula... I had more into it than what he offered so I said no... What he offered was fair for the car however..

I have had a TON of people offer to buy my 1967 Riv too...

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I was coming home from a car show and stopped for gas. When I was pulling out a guy started chasing me and flashing his lights. I instantly thought that I forgot my gas cap or something so I stopped. He pulled up beside me in his Mercedes and asked how much I wanted for it. My first thought was that one of my friends put a for sale sign on my ride. He asked me how much and I said 13k. It's worth about 7 or 8 but I figured if I was going to sell it I would need enough for a better one. He actually thought about and even asked his wife. He finally said that if I would come down a little he would buy it. I said no and left.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I've chased down guys to buy their cars. I even chased down that Jamaica Yellow SLP car and pulled him over on the interstate during rush hour.

I've also had a couple guys chase me down to see if that's really a Firehawk. One even asked if I would sell it for $10k.....

The 5.0 Mustangs are the one's that really seem to get offers. The 93 Cobra gets an offer every few times it comes out. It's really sad yet interesting how the moostangs are so much more popular vs the third gen fbodies.

He offered me 3 grand cash because the car had a strait body with no body work and the T roof. It was the fact that i needed a car to be on the Ferry first thing in the morning that stopped me for taking the money. It's not like i would of found a new car, had it registered and then have it loaded in time.
Similar thing happened to me

I was on my way back to college in TN (14 hour drive) and stopped about halfway for gas

This was the first trip after the fresh paintjob. Some guy came up and chatted with me about it and how it looked nice. Ended up with an offer of $4k. If I wasnt 7 hours from an alternate vehicle I would have let it go

Nothing since then, not even sure if he was serious or not

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I've had offers of other cars I've owned but not my third gen. I did have it for sale for a while a couple of years back though. A lot of kids came to check it out. One in particular was very interested , said that he was going to buy it and was going to the bank to get a loan. He came back the next day and said that the bank told him that it was only worth $2,500. (I was asking 5K) I said fine, buy one from the bank. He gave me a weird look and said "the bank doesen't have one of these for sale" and I said "then you have a decision to make don't you". I walked back in the house and he walked around the car for another ten minutes and left. He never came back. In a way I'm glad.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I have gotten tons of offers for my GTA since I have bought it. I get talked to about 2 times a week about the car. Just a couple of weeks ago I went to a restaurant to pick up some take out. It was nice outside and I was only going to be inside for a second so I left the windows open. I walk out and of course there is some old guy standing checking out the inside of my car. So I asked him what he was doing and he told me he LOVED the car, I mean he was going nuts over it. We talked for about 15 minutes and I showed him the engine, I demonstrated the newly rebuilt headlight motors, and all that jazz. Before I left he offered me 15K for the car, and he said it was the cleanest GTA he's ever seen out of a show room. I know I could have made off like a villain, but I simply have too much love for the car. Its my first car, it's my favorite car on the planet, and I am going to have it forever. I told him that, he told me he understood, so we said our good byes and I left.

Haha, i love when kids get excited about it, Ive had kids with their parents saying look at the race car! , or tell me how nice it is. ive had quite a few kids get excited when they see it, its cool

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I almost bought my first car that way. There was a nice '91 Z28 t-top down the street from our house and I one day got the crazy idea to offer to buy it (in '99). Turned out he was looking to trade it in on a Tacoma and we agreed on $7k. I waited 4 months and he never did buy a truck and I never did get that car. Took me until 2 years ago to get the Z28 I wanted except I upgraded my wants to a convertible. Looking back on it I was in for a good deal the car was only 8 years old with 100k kms, fully loaded.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I have a black 1991 Z28 vert and I've been offered many dollar amounts ranging from $6k to $12k for it. Of course, I politely decline any offers. I just explain how I grew up around Camaros (parents have a 1968 sport coupe my mom bought new, still own it 42 years later) and that ever since I first saw the magazine ad with a black 1991 Z28 vert that said "Camaro Z28 is back. Gentleman, don't bother to start your engines" I wanted one. I go on to explain how it took me nearly 6 years to finally track one down and that under no circumstances will it ever leave my possesion. I think most of the people who want it just think it's awesome and beautiful. I agree 110%, but I didn't buy this car just on a whim. I patiently waited for it to come across my desk, if you will. So while yes, it is gorgeous and awesome, I bought it because I was PASSIONATE about it, it was my dream. And that can't be replaced by any dollar amount.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

Somebody asking to buy my sweet old Z?
Nah.......never ! I get a lot of ooohs and ahhhs at the local cruise nite and
comments of how nice the body and interior are.
I just get the old "do you drive it winters and where did it come from cuz
its so clean and shiny top and bottom (from NC)". Only the Cam/bird heads
know what it is and that its a HO and has the BW 9 bolt with 3:73s and loaded
with options.............

The kids ignore it cuz it don't have a wing, kaizan stickers, spinnaz and a fart can
so to them it ain't COOL enuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now my old GTO is a different story..............Folks drive me crazy with the "is it for
sale or you STILL have that damn car!" (owned since 1974)

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

A few.

The car was originally my fathers and was given to me when I turned 17 for continuing school. Anyways most were neighbors or friends. We have lived at the same area for over 7 years. So we know everyone pretty well and my father is the known mechanic of the block so they all come to him for some inexpensive repairs. Alot of people would ask how much it cost and their jaws will drop when they hear that my father got the car for $550 and hear it with some good revs. Of course for the price the car had alot of problems but now it runs like a champ.

Highest offers I have had was 2500 & 1950 from a few friends of my fathers after they test drove it. Most will still bring up the offer when they come to hang out. Even a family member is still interested, My uncle that came to visit from Fort Worth, TX saw the car when we were fixing it up and was in the garage in Jackstands during the L05 Swap and said he owned a thirdgen before and wanted to give me $1500 for it. I think he called my dad a few weeks ago to check up and said the offer is still on the table.

As for the Firebird. The car was originally for my father to use for work commute but it ended up having too many problems for him to worry about since he needed a working car right there and then. The car was bought with my money so he just handed over the keys and is now going into a 350 L98 swap. Not many have seen the car or many I have told about besides a few friends which one really wants a firebird but no job isnt really gonna help him.

My family has had a decent amount of history with third gens. I think a total of 5 including my Firebird and the Camaro.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

Seems like at least once a week someone makes an offer - I hardly ever take it out but (trying to keep miles low)... Some offers are decent most are just funny! I seriously doubt that I will ever sell - but I do suppose every man has his price!

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I have bought three cars that way so far! Here is a good one for you all though.

Some time back I was selling cars at the local GM dealership and the detail guy owed me a favor so I had him go over my Black & Tan 85' Z28. Once that baby was all shined up he set it out front as a joke and I had to tell at least 10 people it was not for sale before I could get it moved back to safety.

Re: anyone ever asked to buy you'r car?

I live above a liquor store and i have to park my 88 camaro vert in front ,just yesterday i was asked if i wanted to sell it twice and atleast 3 other times since I've gotten the car in october.i was asked once why i didnt want to sell it because he said it just sits there, which is true since i don't drive it in the snow and my job is directly behind my apartment. i guess the guy has no clue how well they handle in the snow oh well i guess there's all kinds
And not to mention all the passerby's who once owned one or knew someone that did ,it does become a pain when I'm out there wanting to get things done to her .
But I'm seriously thinking of getting a "" NOT FOR SALE '' sign

Ive had about 3 people ask me if it was for sale and I said no. They never made any offers though. But I always get people asking me about it every week and telling me how nice it is and how lucky I am. It definately makes me proud because I have put alot of time and effort into my car thus far.

Some dude laying sod on my neighbours property came knocking on my door saying "sell me your car", next thing I know I was taking him for a cruise because he wouldnt shut up.
Another time a guy in a fox body asked if i'd trade straight up
And one more time after that in fort mac I had a note taped to my window asking if i'd take a few pounds of crack for my car...
