I've really become really interested in his work lately and was just curious, how exactly did he die? Did he lose control of his car in a freak accident or was the track at fault? How exactly did he wreck his car?

What exactly happened though? The site is a good piece of info but doesn't say.
Was it just a freak accident? Was the track not properly prepped? did he get the car up to 231846318974MPH then all of a sudden it went right into a wall?

That is probably the one single page on that entire website that's not total BS.
I would tend to think Google would be a good place to start answering questions.

Legendary racer, engineer, and tuner John Lingenfelter has passed away on December 25th at the age of 58 from complications due to an accident.
Lingenfelter was racing R.J. Simrock in the semifinals of the Mazda NHRA Sport Compact World Finals at Pomona Raceway when he lost control of his Summit Racing Equipment Chevy Cavalier, crossed the centerline, and hit the guardwall in the opposite lane. According to witnesses, it appeared that Lingenfelter may have been knocked unconscious upon impact, as his car proceeded off the end of the track under power before coming to rest against a safety barrier at track’s end.

Thanks a bunch dude. I did try google but didn't turn up much. I was hoping there may be a member here that knew something or someone that was actually there that day.

I don't see how this post has anything to do with History/Restoration of the 3rd gens. Ligenfelter's death due to his losing control of his car or the track doesn't belong here. Sorry.
