New guy to the forum trying to find a long lost '89 IROC-Z
Hi everyone! My name is Laith. I'm 17, junior in high school about to be a senior. I do wrestling, track and football at my high school. I'm a outdoors person, love to work on cars and trucks and especially love camaros and trucks. Anyway, what brings me here is I have been trying to hunt down one IROC-Z camaro with the 5.7tpi motor that was owned by my dad since new. He bought the car brand new in 1989, was driving by the chevy dealership in ST.louis (and he just a month earlier bought a brand new 5.0 liter tpi car and decided to trade this one for the 5.7 car) and saw the car come in on the tractor trailer from the factory. Says he literally drove the car right off the trailer. Fast forward 13 years later to 2002. The car is old, has 155,000 miles and the tranny is starting to do eratic shifts. My dad trades the car for a new Dodge Durango. I know, stupid decision but he needed a new vehicle. Tried stopping him like when I would go to the dealership me and my little brother would go on a wild rampage through the showroom and the guys would get mad and we would leave, LOL. You know stuff like that. Ended up my dad left early on a saturday before me and my brother woke up and came back later that night with the durango. Now 8 years later, my dad kept all the original documentation to the car. All the manuals, receits, even the original window sticker. It was fully loaded with the 5.7 engine, leather interior, t-tops, delco-bose stereo, fog-lamps, power everything, etc.The car was traded in Jackson, Mississippi at Blackwell Dodge auto complex in April of 2002. I got a carfax check on it and says that it was sold at auction in May of 2004 as a dealer vehicle with 58,189 miles but really it has 158,189 miles. It was a bright red car, grey interior, had a dent on the passenger side door my dad says but doesn't remember if it was on the drivers side though. The carfax says its registered now in Sandersville, Mississippi. The vin number is 1G1FP2186KL197353.If anyone knows about this car please please PM me if you know anything. I really would like to know if the car is still alive and kickin and maybe if I could maybe buy it from the guy who owns it. I know I know, I could go out and find another IROC just like it but I want this car since it was my Dad's. Anyway, sorry for me blabbing away like I did. Thanks

I think you're on the closest forum for the topic at hand. Generally, if you have the VIN you might try contacting the DMV to see if they can give you any information. As far as I can remember, many states have privacy laws to prevent that information from being available to the public.

Good luck in finding it
I don't think the DMV will be allowed to give out any info though.

if you have any cop friends they may be able to help you out even though its kind of illegal they can get dmv info, and good luck I hope you find it.

Thanks ya'll for your suggestions on how to find the car. I'm gonna post about the car in the South Eastern Region forum and see if any leads come up. Also gonna call the 6 DMVs in the Sandersville, MS area and see if I can come up with anything at all.I'll also see if some of my friends parents who are cops can help me out maybe. Oh well, we'll see.

Great story and awesome news.
As a penalty to your dad for making such a regrettable decision like selling his Camaro, I think he should pay for at least 49% of it (you the controlling interest of 51%) to buy it back.
You tell him Iroctopless told you.
