Where do I Look?????
I know I have original engine for my car. Just not sure on transmission. How/where do I look to determine this. Maybe I should add rear end for that matter also. Its hard to believe it but I have a drum brake rear in a WS6 car but it seems to be the case.
I figure on rebuilding the original LB9 that came in my car and putting it back in but if the tranny or rear end aint original I may keep the L98 thats in it now.
Any suggestions.

Do a search for posts made by Drew within the last month in the History forum. He added some information that stated where the stampings are to determine the vehicle's originality. I'll look and see if I can find it also.

Re: Where do I Look?????
Scott any idea about the rear ends? Although, I cant figure anyone would swap in a drum brake rear end.
I think I will feel like that right after I look!
I found the serial number further back on the case, on the drivers side just in front of the tail housing. The 6 digit number matches the last 6 digits of the VIN on the car. I was kind of hoping the transmission wouldn't be original so I could easily justify the T56 swap... No such luck.

I know Drew posted about that at one time also. I'm familiar with the 69 Camaro and I really don't think it's changed any so I'll take a shot and say that the markings are on the passenger side facing the front of the vehicle. They may be towards the top, so you might have to clean off any road grime. again, not positive with the 3rd gen as my car is original so I haven't gone looking for these items. Use the advanced search feature for Drew's post and I believe it even shows a picture of where to find it.

By the book, the axle tubes are supposed to be marked on the front of the passengers side tube. However, I've never verified it myself and I haven't looked to see if there's a partial vin present. After a bit I'll go check the rear in my personal junkyard and report back.

Re: Where do I Look?????
According to the service manual, and other printed materials, there should be a code on the front side of the passengers axle tube, and a stamped tag on the cover. My spare rear is a 7.62" 10-bolt out of a 91 Formula. I wasn't able to make out any code on the axle tube. The tags on the cover were gone, which is typical for cars that have had the gear oil changed.
However, from reading the service manual, there's a section that talks about VIN locations on the car. It doesn't point out exactly where ALL the VIN's are located, but it doesn't state or imply anywhere that there's any mark on the rear axle assembly. Further, assuming the axles were stamped, it's reasonable to think that the stamp isn't going to be legible at this point. I've seen the stamped tags on the cover that weren't legible from rust even after scrubbing. Axle housings seem to corrode really bad on most thirdgens since all except the BW 9 bolts were left bare steel.
